So please be patient with me here, I'm no electronics expert but I'm handy with a tool or two, including the soldering iron.

After assembling all the necessary bits and bobs, I set about installing the Ezi-Dab today. First step I removed the auxiliary socket from the bottom of the centre cubby and replaced it with a combined USB & Aux input. My plan was to hard wire the Ezi-Dab aux out into the Range Rover aux in, giving me an aux in option both between the seats (standard) and in the cubby. So I popped off the lower vent cover on the rear of the centre cubby and disconnected the plug connecting the stock Aux in with the rest of the car. First problem is there are the three wires you'd expect, i.e. tip, ring, and shank plus an extra 'brown' wire. So I connected up the tip, ring, and shank wires in parallel and powered up the Rangey, connected my phone using the headphone connection to the new parallel socket and.........nothing! But if you put a jack in the standard socket, then the music played even though it was connected to the parallel socket. So it seems the brown wire 'detects' a plug in the aux socket but I don't want to have to have a plug in the socket to use my new parallel connection.

Obviously there is some Range Rover trickery going on in the aux socket but does anyone know how to fool this brown wire into thinking there is a jack in the stock socket?

Does the additional wire connect to earth when headphones are plugged in (check with a multimeter) i.e. to the shank? If so, then you could connect the brown wire to the shank connection.
