Power steering problem

Hi all , drove through a puddle this morning and power steering packed up, after a few seconds battery light on dash came on. IID tool says low negitive on alternator, cleared fault but to no avail. IID tool now not working ( has happened before not i dont think related) voltage is on 11.7 and drops lower if heated screen is put on but then returns to 11.7. I know its alternator related but could it be a loose wire and hiw about power sterering ?? any ideas please 2015 4.4 AB
