Hmmm, I still think that some kind of physical key needing to be put into the ignition is a far better solution. Keyless saves time opening the car but there is no change in terms of starting up. Far better to have a physical key with just tweaky locking.

I had reason to open several vehicles, without damage, on a regular basis a few years back, some (a lot) were dead easy. 4 or 5 seconds with a slim Jim or other useful tools and they were open, other however were a right pig and some impossible without damage. Car thieves want silent and quick, the last thing they want is noise and excessive time. If it's going to be noisy or time cosuming they'll just move on to the next one. Thumbs Up

Hi Tony

Sorry to hear how LR have treated you. I have watched you "Stolen" post hoping for a brighter outcome. It sounds like your insurance company have been a great help when you needed them the most. Just out of interest which insurance company did you use as all this helps for my future purchase and options. Thumbs Up

It seems that it's not unusual for people to queue up to give LR support a good kicking.

In my experience of 5 (and shortly, 6) Land Rovers on the trot, driving around 35-40,000 miles a year, their support has had some issues but, overall, it's been darn good; certainly leagues ahead of Ford, Citroen and BMW and it's the best I've experienced since starting to do that kind of annual mileage in 1985! Shocked

These experiences have been good enough to mean that I'm happy to sink eye watering amounts of my own money into a FFRR, confident that they will pick up the pieces with any fair claim.

How odd. A steel box, like a heavy duty biscuit tin, had no effect on suppressing the signal, but a single thickness of aluminium foil blocked the signal completely! Are there any physicists out there that could explain that one for me please?

A shall now have to line my new metal strong box with aluminium foil...

It's very expensive Laughing Laughing
I was thinking about using some used kitchen foil left over from last nights meal....folded over a few times for improved signal blocking.

It's not so much to do with being skinflint and everything to do with:

1. Having something that I can put the who bunch of keys in (to keep them together - the bags that I've found so far are too small for anything other than they key itself and a bit too, er, Julian Clary..
And...
2. Having somewhere fixed at home and at the office where I know I can find them! (I'm always struggling to find my keys Rolling Eyes )

Not a physicist, nor is this an explanation of the physics behind it but you get the same if you use chain link fencing on a bigger scale. If you took something like 1 inch square steel mesh, make a cage of 10 foot square, including the roof and base. Sit inside that and try to get a normal transistor radio to work. It doesn't.

Unless the biccie tin is made of inch thick lead it is much less effective than a cage, dunno why though, it just is.

Radio waves pass through steel but not through aluminium.
