United Kingdom 2015 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black
The Last Post

Dear all,

This will be my last post.

6 1/2 weeks ago my beloved 2014SDV8 Autobiography was stolen from my drive despite being double locked and the keys with me in my bedroom...some of you may have followed my "stolen" post.

First the good news (ish),
My insurance company paid a generous amount despite the fact that I had no GAP insurance.
However, it took 6 weeks to actually receive the money (although they did give a goodwill gesture sum for the delay).

Now the bad news.
JLR have done nothing, diddly squit, zippo to help.
Nothing apart from "sorry for your loss but it's down to your insurance company now".
No gesture of goodwill, no acknowledgement of the vulnerability of keyless go to theft.
No help with finding a replacement vehicle, just head in the sand.
I have been treated like I am something smelly stuck to the bottom of their shoe.
My local Range Rover main dealer could not even confirm that this problem has been resolved or that a brand new FFRR could not be stolen in the same way.

I will never, ever touch a JLR product again as long as I live. Many of my friends and family are as horrified as me.

From a PR point of view, JLR have behaved like PR**ks.

I've bought a BMW for my sins...oh and a faraday cage bag for the keys, just in case.

You've been a great crowd...always a font of knowledge...and wit...I will miss you.

So it's arrivederci, au revoir and goodbye (plus अलविदा for the JLR most senior Managers).

Kind regards,

Tony If it ain't broken, fix it till it is.

I'm sorry to hear that it's affected you this deeply. The problem isn't so much the car as many high end cars still get nicked off our driveways; it's the way that we are left to feel by inaction and ineptness. I dare say that if things had been handled differently, LR could have been helping you to choose a new product but they seem caught out by the speed that their products are flying off the shelves.

I genuinely think they aren't overly concerned by the odd one or two leaving and feeling disenfranchised. I'm still awaiting a reply from the LR Forum representative four months ago.

I really do wish you well with your new purchase and I suspect if Land Rover don't get a grip of their communication problems then you won't be the last loyal customer to look elsewhere.

All the best, sorry its been such a bad experience.

I hope you have more luck with the BMW.

Its sad when this happens as it doesn't take a lot to keep customers happy. Such a shame as such a good product.

Thumbs Up

I hope that time is a healer and look forward to your return Very Happy

I guess it's a tough spot for JLR - they can't admit too much liability otherwise the insurance companies will pass on the bill, but would expect the local dealer, with the strong prospect of another sale, to bend over backwards.....

Not just JLR unfortunately. High profile local story here of how a BMW was stolen off of someones drive. His CCTV showed them around the car, fiddling with a laptop and in 20 mins they're away. No alarm, no keys etc. 17 MY Corris Grey 4.4 VAB

Very sorry to hear that you feel you've been treated badly, although if you think that LR are bad (in my experience they've been a lot, lot better and certainly more generous in their settlements than most), then you may have a bit of a shock dealing with BMW should things go wrong Shocked

I think JLR customers are like foxes now, you shoot one and three come to it's funeral ! Oh, keyless car thefts are rife now, with all brands not just JLR.
You want a new car, just order the neccessary signal booster off ebay and go get one. It's that easy.
This is the price we pay for some being too lazy to turn a key.

Although I don't remember a time when using a key to secure a car was any safer Confused

II have other physical security at home, so not been too worried, but this is quite sobering - losing the car from the house would be bad enough, but being left somewhere you'd made a short stop would be very inconvenient.

I guess a bag like this is the answer - but I've not actually tried one.

I've just gone and bought a metal "strong box" and tested its signal blocking capabilities by putting the keys inside, shutting the box, taking it with me and attempting to open and start the car. I was able to open and start the car as if it wasn't there; I wonder if the "Faraday bags" are just as ineffective?

Back to square one Confused

When I go away for a long weekend I like to take the spare keys with me. On the journey I may want to leave them in the car. I have found that simply putting them in a tin is not enough but if I wrap them in crumpled aluminium foil and then put them in a tin the car cannot detect them.

Maybe that is what is needed to ensure a faraday bag works.

I'll be trying some experiments with aluminium foil this evening...
