Caravan windows..

Hi All,

Just gone through to check on the caravan (2010 Lunar Delta) before using it in a couple of weeks only to find that two of the front windows have delaminated.

Any advice or experience of repairing these windows would be gratefully received as according to the other half it's all my fault - well it would be wouldn't it Thumbs Up

Cheers ______________________________

There are ways of heat laminating them but the success I had was limited. I ended up up replacing the window with one from a breakers.

Our 2004 Sterling had the same issue with all three front windows. I got a two pack plastic adhesive off the bay suitable for the job. Whilst it was a fairly easy job the two pack i brought had a very quick cure time and a one shot contact so no room for errors.

Also I didn't like the look of the finished job - you can tell its been done and whilst the bond is very strong there was some collateral fogging on the outer pane. I don't know about your but there is a fine squared pattern which disappears when the panes are separated - a sort of tell tale and this looks crap after rebonding.

i think be careful which product you choose and most will require you to separate both inner and outer panes in order to do the job.

I wish getting replacement windows from 'breakers' was an easy solution but I gave up looking in the end.

Caravans are basically built down to a budget and not made to last!

I'll try and find the product I used (if only to tell you one to avoid). Shocked

Edit: Found it: I used this. Extremely strong but not very user friendly.:

Good point. I think the age of my van goes against me. I hope the OP newer van has more success.

Nice Stan, nice Whistle

Thanks guys for your input. Ajac, yes I'd seen that from bondrite and it comes highly recommended, I've also been looking at other acrylic weld products that, as you clamp the two halves together, wicks into the join through capillary action and is colourless, and as the description suggests it welds the two halves together rather than glue them.

I've been looking around breakers but no luck yet. There is a company that will make an exact copy of your windows but you have to send them your windows and can take up to three weeks to complete and I've had quotes of £400 a window........

I don't have a caravan cover and the caravan would have to be without front windows all that time and given it's the British summer time the caravan would be drowned in no time. I'm not going to stick plastic or anything where the windows would be as it's a beacon to would be thieves Sad and how would I explain the lack of windows to the insurance company.

So I think it's a weld product with clamps and a steady hand, oh and a couple of dry days.... Thumbs Up

Have you tried ordering one off Lunar through your local lunar dealer.

Should be doable, the van isn't that old though don't know how much it will be.

There's a couple on eBay too..... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hi NMJ,

Yes already tried Lunar but they suggested that I could be waiting 4 weeks or longer, the price is extortionate.

I know Lunar are the smallest of the British caravan manufacturers but.......... ______________________________
