Stan, I think it does! was getting a bit notchy especially at slower speeds and when you throttle off, bearing in mind these boxes are probably as near as good as it gets in an auto!

with the ecu being reset it learns your style from the off as well, so much smoother change now in my opinion.

As i said its all personal preference on some things and i chose to do it this way to get as much of the old oil out as was possible and replace it with fresh. It has got to be better! Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

England 2011 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Bournville

Hi all,
I also have a 2011 4.4 TDV8.
I've had it a year, 8k miles done so far, only issue was a damper wire on the front strut (easy fix).
The vehicle has now done 58k.
I had a major LR Dealer service carried out when I bought it at 47k and was told no issues following a full faults analysis.
Recently its done a fair share of work towing trailers with vehicles on and I've not had any problems.
This week I had 5 people and all luggage on board, 150 miles into a trip (mainly motorway) it had the gearbox overheat message displayed.
It's now cleared, but made me think it's time for a GB oil change.
Is the earlier cooler blockage fault still a problem on this model year?
I have also noticed a slight 'wheel bearing' sound noise but can't detect where it's coming from, possibly the front.
Are there any issues with the CV joints or wheel bearings, or diffs?
Might this all be related in some way?

For your possible wheel bearing noise, check that the pipes from the ABS modulator are all properly spaced apart by the spacers. I had a right front wheel bearing replaced to no avail trying to fix this noise only to discover an unattached pipe was vibrating on an adjacent pipe well down the void.

This is interesting - my 2011 was in for a megaflush and service but my indie (used for 20 years and totally trustworthy) called me up to ay you can't do a megaflush on the 8 speed box as there is a thermostat in the system that closes when the cold flush fluid hits it preventing the flush...?

So I just had the oil changed (84k) and the oil that came out was clean so probably wouldn't have benefitted from a megaflush anyway Smile Good news all round - £300 +VAT saved and a clean bill of health for the box! Bish.

That seams far too cheap sir... The oil is £48 per litre from JLR let alone the cost of the filter!

Engine oil & filter changed. Transmission flushed by pumping out dark grey fluid out of the cooler line. Fresh oil in the old fashioned way. Very time consuming and awkward.

Wondering if this technique is possible on the 8-speed ?

Planning to change the fluid but I want to change more than the 4 that'll come out by gravity. Total capacity is 8.5litres.
. Cheers, Greg

No Thumbs Up

Transmission cooler is not very accessible

Thermostat in the pipes stops you fitting any oil back in

The only way to flush, is using a dedicated flushing machine
