United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Tonga Green
powerhouse.uk - Supercharger Rebuild Service - Or Not...

Just in case anyone was thinking of using this company, I sent what I thought was a perfectly acceptable email and get nothing but attitude.

So you're a "pain" if you ask for a courtesy car these days?:

Dear Sirs,

I have a high mileage (185K) 2005 Range Rover with the 4.2 AJV8 SC - I'm interested in two things:

Firstly, your expertise with the Jag AJV8 - I have an irritating drone/reverberation noise under partial load around 1500-2000RPM. I don't think it's the SC as I cut the belt (prior to renewing it) and the noise remained - I wonder, is this something you've come across before? It has all local garages/specialists stumped.

Secondly, your SC rebuild service - I appreciate the cost of £255 is to rebuild one that's been sent to you, could you please give me an idea of the cost including removal and refitting? Also, how long would this process take?

One major issue I have is that I'm in Cornwall - so I need to look into whether I should send the SC to you and pay the garage here to remove/refit. But I'm really keen on you having the car to see if you can trace this noise for me. Should I choose to drive up to you - do you have a courtesy car (something nice) I could use for a few days?

Yours Sincerely,

Dan Dollin

I’m afraid all of your assumptions in your email are wrong:

We are not Range Rover engine specialists, we just rebuild the superchargers.

£255 is to rebuild the 4.0 type, it’s £285 for the 4.2 type.

We don’t remove and refit from Range Rovers I’m afraid, you’d have to get that done locally, so no we don’t have ‘something nice’ as a courtesy car.

OK thanks.

I guess I saw the picture on your website of a Range Rover in your workshop with the bonnet up and came to the conclusion that's the sort of thing you did...

Thanks,
Dan

We were fitting nitrous to it.

We don’t make flags either.

You really know how to win customers!

I can spot a pain a mile off and know how to avoid them

Good luck finding somebody out there who will be willing to lend you ‘something nice’ for a few days. The fact that it would cost them more than the work you’re having done would, I am sure, not occur to you.

Perhaps I am a difficult customer, you know, expecting people to do what they say they're going to do etc...

Wow, I am pretty disappointed and shocked at the response of Powerhouse. I thought the original request was simple, polite and reasonable. You definitely won't ever catch me becoming a customer of a company that treats its customers like this.

If you don't want the custom, then don't bother responding. Don't treat potential customers like Censored

I think asking for a decent courtesy car is fair enough when you are handing over a top of the range motor. But the correct response should have been: Sorry, we do not supply courtesy cars as we only rebuild the superchargers that are already removed from the vehicles.

And who on earth puts Nitrous on a Range Rover? Sorry, but to me it seems pointless, and will only wear the car out even quicker, given that you are effectively fitting Nitrous to a breezeblock. POINTLESS.

If the companies attitude is this bad, makes me wonder about the quality of the workmanship.

Glad I saw the post on Facebook.
