I am the proud owner of a Rr P38 Vogue 2000My. I abselutely love it to bits but I do not trust it 100 percent being an old car with dodgy electrics.I would really like to do the long journeys in a Rr rather than our Peugeot. The TdV8s are becoming more afordable here in Norway, especially as diesels are regarded as being the work of the devil.

It is very few cars to choose from here in Norway. Choice is mostly old and abused td6, a few 4.4v8s Even fewer supercharged's and 3.6 TdV8s. I would like a Supercharged, but given the limited Choice and decline in prices I would consider a TDV8. I do very few miles, mostly short journeys around Town which is not ideal for a diesel.

Will the TDV8 cope with short journeys? It will ofcourse sees some lenger journeys in between. Can something be done so that it copes better with short trips?

The car would normally do around town driving like back and forth from shopping and some occational longer journeys. I guess I have to wait for a decent Supercharger to show up then :-/

i have a 4.4 tdv8 and generally use it for short journeys with occasional long trips..i've had it for over a year and havnt come across any problems... ... - .- -.

Thanks for more views. We have a Peugeot 308 hdi which has only done 66k km in 7 years without any problems. Its used for some longer journeys and then i try to drive it a bit hard when warm to start dpf regeneration and get rid of some soot. Has not given us any troubles yet.

Just "exercise" the turbos occasionally on those short journeys and you'll be fine! Bish.

Short or long, sure all will be fine... As long as you give it a decent run regularly... Superb engine

Thanks for more views. I try to drive my cars with my head and not do any high revs when cold, likvise try to excersise the engine when hot sometimes. I also believe in preventive maintenance.

My 3.6 does 8 or 10 short journeys a week. But I've disabled the EGRs,I've used induction cleaner and lately I've cleaned MAPs which have all made a difference I think.

I've done the last 35000km of the cars 265,000km. No major motor dramas. ______________________________

I had a similar thought when getting my RR. I do lots of short journeys (at least 6 to 8 per day, all sub 5 miles). Even with the EGR delete possibility, I couldn't get past the notion that i would be asking for trouble with a large block diesel. I got the supercharged. ... which for the short journeys has been great and hassle free. The flip side is that the long journeys are crippling at 20mpg and I really wish I had got the tdv8!


I still think that overall I made the right choice considering the short journeys. V8 or else ...

I have a 3.6 TDV8 - pre-DPF and use it mainly for short journeys and it has to put a foot wrong.

(That of course, is the kiss of death now... )

Short journeys are the killer of the DPF my 3.6 was a 57 so pre dpf and I did mostly short journeys in it. So long as it's run regularly and gets a workout once in a while it should be ok. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
