Loss of Photobucket hosted images in threads

Now that Photobucket wants a ridiculous amount (US$399 per user per annum) to have links to images hosted on their site, can I ask that members update their posts to fix the broken links?

Unless Photobucket see the error of their ways (and there have been a significant number of people complain), you'll need to either upload them directly to the forum or upload them to another image hosting service, e.g., imgur or flickr and edit the links in your posts.

It's going to be a flamin' big job but many of the "how to" threads will be severely compromised without the pix. Ron B. VK2OTC

Now that Photobucket has reversed it's earlier decision (and got rid of the CEO who made it), have images reappeared in posts? I can't see where they may have done. Ron B. VK2OTC

Back when they originally did this and broke embedded images, I wrote and ran a program to recover the images from PB, copy them to a server under my control and change the links.

It got the vast majority, some could not be recovered (mainly due perhaps to images that were deleted from PB).

Posts which had this done have a message at the bottom.

This thread is locked (wikied) so I couldn't comment there: How to - 4.4 V8 PCV valve replacement https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic16611.html

Any chance of recovering images for that thread? Without them, it's not as useful as it could be. Ron B. VK2OTC

Sadly I think those images had been removed from PB before the program copied them over - it has copied over the warning image instead.

Ahh. I didn't realise you had written a program to grab the images where possible. Well done. Ron B. VK2OTC
