Hi guys and girls

Having had pleanty of tractor but reliable 4x4's (shoguns, land cruisers, cr-v's etc) im wanting to try something a bit more elegant !

Im stuck between a L322 4.4 (would ideally be dark interior which seems to be rare ?) or a 4.8 BMW X5.

Obv there is going to be a slight bias on here but wonderd if any had maybe owned both ?

I do the very rare bit of towing a few times a year so the rest of the time id like to have a bit of comfort and power and hopefully LPG !

Am I wanting the moon on a stick ?

not drove the X5 4.8 however have drove a few X5's they are nowhere near as comfy as the fatty's

the X5 to me feels enclosing nicely finished but in all honesty you will get the same sort of faults with both the X5 and the fatty

the fatty's are a wonderful drive, nice and spacious I would go find both a fatty and an X5 just sit in them see which suites you best



the 4.4 fatty on LPG is a wonderful car, there are many about you don't need to worry about what make LPG system is just get in the car switch it to gas if it feels good you will be ok (LPG can be fixed easily)

The X5 is the drivers car..... but it's like sitting in any other BMW. It's nice - I've had a few BM's as you can see in my signature....but sitting in a Range Rover is like sitting in no other car. It's not a great car for nip and tuck driving like the X5, but there is much more of a sense of occasion. It does most things the X5 does on the road otherwise, but doesn't shout about it. The X5 does none of what the RR can do off it.....

The 4.8 X5 is a really nice piece of kit, but as I'm not having a slight mid life crisis, I'll take the RR.

Seriously though, drive both, have a think, don't rush - get what you prefer...

Pal of mine had a 4.8 iS X5. If he tried hard he could get it as low as 5mpg

A 4.4 Rangey will break double figures you know....and it's a lot comfier. Am sure zee fans of zee farzerlant shall enlighten us on the pros of having an X5  Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I was torn between an x5 4.8 and another ff,after a good long test drive in a very good x5,it convinced me that another ff was my preferred choice.

Absolutely no comparison for sense of occasion and comfort.

Even today I think the interior of the late L322s is better than most things. Even the new L405s and certainly an X5.
X5 probably a more sporty drive - but thats where it ends.

It all depends on what you are looking for. I had the BMW 4.8is before my RR TDV8 and it was an awesome car however the ride was very firm. Ride is far superior on the RR however the sound and acceleration on the BMW is unbelievable. 2015 Range Rover VSE 4.4 SDV8. 1998 BMW 840 Sport, 2008 Aston Martin DB9

can't remember which model it was but I seem to remember something in the back of my mind about X5 torque converters letting go, especially if towing!!

may be worth looking into!

is the 4.4 not a BMW engine as well? Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

i had a 4.8 for about 5 months..it looked good but i hated it...the inside was bland and the runflat tyres shook me body to bits...
