Posting on behalf of my Grandad!

He has a 2002 Range Rover, which he hasn't had much luck with.

The problem started with the key not turning in the barrel, since then the steering column has been replaced, thinking it may be the ECU housed there. He has also replaced the ignition barrel for the key. After this was done I have found on the Lynx Diagnostic tool that the engine immobiliser code is showing..

When you stick the key in and try to start everything is working, it just wont turnover.. Which makes me think it is more electrical than mechanical.

So I suppose our question is, after the installation of a new steering column, does this need to be programmed in with T4 or similar?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi I have just had this exact problem twice, it will almost certainly be the switch at the base of the ignition it's not part of the ignition so probably won't have been replaced when the ignition was, I fitted a good used one when it first went and then it lasted about 3 months and did it again so this time I bought a brand new L/R one from Dan @ Duckworths on here, it takes about an hour to replace first time and is v common, part no for Td6 is YXB000090 or for petrol version YXB000080 and was £99.50 delivered iirc.
Oh and in answer to the last question I believe that if your immobiliser or steering column wasn't working then the key won't turn to the 1st click where you hear the steering lock release so if you are now getting past that and the ignition lights are coming up but no starter then as above
