4.4 tdv8 fan belt help

Hi all, have my auxiliary belt snap last week and had to get the FF lifted to the garage.
They have managed to get the belt on but can't seem to get the second belt that just dose the fan to go on, it's a stretch belt and just seems to tight. Any tips I can pass on, it's been in there since Tuesday and now they are saying it may be ready on Monday!!!
Thanks Dave

there is a tool to get it on which clamps to the pulley and "winds it on" as you turn the pulley by hand with a bit of pressure on the side of the belt according to rave. Requires special tool number 303-1500

The Aux belt is a fit and forget item according to JLR and should not snap under normal use. I would ask the garage to check the pulleys and tensioner while its in bits as there are issues around the tensioner failing and the belt running half off the pulley causing failure. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thank you both for your response, she has just touched 91,000, when I went to see how they were getting on last night I did note the auxiliary belt was sitting about 10mm of the tension pulley. I don't know if the pulley had been tightened up at this point but I will ask him to check it out, looks like I may need a new pulley as well.
Thanks Dave

yes, that doesn't sound right. the pulley is self tensioning/spring loaded, it was probably seated when they put the belt on, and they have turned the engine over and its moving off. If they still have some of the front of the engine apart swapping the tensioner shouldn't be too tricky/expensive.

CTC mentioned it a while back as a possible failure point. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I had belt snap last week. Now I know what the noise was when warming up. All pullies look OK and adjuster . I was hoping one pully would be suspect at lest.

Shredded into pieces and wrapped round the viscous
160.000 miles. Not sure it's been do e before. Can't see anything on the service history
Regards
Andy

I had a ‘chirp’ on mine in the mornings, Indy thought the my tensioner(s) we’re ‘just starting’ to wear at 98k so had all belts & tensioners done before anything let go. Expensive, but she’s all done & good for another 98k😁 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Just an update .
Thanks for the info regarding gearing the belt over the water pump. Rotating the engine with a lever did the job.
I did start the engine to see if all was OK before re fitting all the bits and the belt did creep forward on the adjuster. So I changed that and the and the belt stayed well on the adjuster. . So a dodgy adjuster was the cause. . I did change the 2x idlers too but after I found the belt moving to the edge of the pull.
I don't know what I would do without this forum .
brilliant
