Bonnet Respray

Anyone had their bonnet resprayed, got hit by a rock a few weeks ago and it's dented the front lip by the letters. Tried a smart repairer but they said it would be hard to blend in so whole bonnet would need doing, my thoughts are if I'm getting the whole bonnet done the I should use a body shop and not some franchise with a tent.

Anyone had experience of smart repairs or whole resprays and there costs ? Pros and cons ?

Yes would strongly advise a body shop rather than smart repairer for a bonnet respray

I did actually think the whole point of a smart repair was to avoid doing whole panels. It's a art and I'm sure there are some good ones around. May ask around for recommendations in my area.

Definitely use a decent body shop. Explain that you expect the finish to be as per factory, a blow over will not suffice on a big flat panel like the bonnet.

I paid £800 to have the bonnet done, both front wings and two doors.

I insisted that the bonnet was rubbed down to primer, repainted and then lacquered, none of this paint with lacquer in nonsense.

I had a similar thing with a rock gouging two grooves in my C5 bonnet a few years back, and a couple of nice big scratches in the windscreen as it went over the top Shocked Shocked

Don't forget that if you buy a new bonnet in the "wrong" colour, you still need to get it resprayed, including the inside if you don't want that dreaded colour change when you open it up (buyers don't like it either as they just think "new bonnet, big shunt, ooooh no..")

If you can't get a decent smart repair then if it were me I would get it done at a good recommended bodyshop.
