It is normal for the upper tailgate latch to operate approx 3 times when the button (either keyfob or on the tailgate itself) is pressed?

I thought this was down to the struts not lifting the tailgate away from the lower section, so put new struts on, but it's still the same.

I don't think that is normal. I'd start by cleaning and lubricating the lock mechanism, maybe also checking the alignment of the locks and the stems they lock on to. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I had this problem, fixed it by lubrication the lockss.
