So you sent your car to a garage.

They looked at all the faults you were indicating and told you they all needed fixing but did. Nothing to actually fix them apart from charge you money ???.....................................................

Hi. Yes they did nothing other than plug the car into their computer and drill a hole in the steering column. They didn't even do the wheel alignment for me. Not happy. They are supposed to be a land rover specialist too. I have been to two different land rover specialists now, with different cars and am not overly impressed with either. They don't seam to know about the common problems we all talk about on here. This latest bunch just seemed to want a quick fix.

If they did the diagnosis correctly it would show the gearbox temp live values. The age of your motor suggests it should have had a new radiator and cooler as they are almost certainly restricted.Check the date stamps on the side of these but either way you would not replace a gearbox before making sure both radiators are free flowing and the transmission oil has been changed first .When checking live values if the temp is flashing up and down quickly it is the temperature sensor as the oil temp cannot flash up and down only gradually when the thermostat switches .

to be honest I have struggled to find a d cent LR specialist round here.not sure which you have tried and there are some with decent reputations but when i price them up they are so busy the think that dealer rates are fair game to charge!!

Asked Alan smith garages to price me an alternator change a while back, was the same as the dealer!! Happened a couple of times pricing Indys against MD, the MD would negotiate a bit on price and would do labour only rates if I got the parts. So at the moment I just get them to do it.

I did get a bit of diagnostic work done at infield 4x4 down near ashby, they seemed pretty decent and knowledgeable, but it was only a plug in job so can't comment on them further! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hi. I can't remember when but in the paperwork it has had a new rad and the oil in gearbox was changed when I got the vehicle.

I've actually had an Indy quote that was more than the dealers , with their reason being they only use genuine parts !!! Laughing

Cheaper , genuine part , warranty covered by any dealer country-wide , free detail job , free jaguar courtesy car
Vs
Expensive , genuine part , warranty covered by them .

Mmmmm , let me think about that and get back to you ......

Correct oil is real important on these. When i bought mine it was showing signs of a badly failing torgue convertor. After I drained the Dextron out of it, it was transformed.

Dont expect the worse. Cange the transmission cooler, do a thermostat upgrade and see how it goes. No7 - 2003 V8 Vogue

What's the thermostat upgrade? I have changed the oil on one of these before when I replaced the transmission oil temperature sensor. Easy enough but messy and awkward when you don't have a pit or ramp.

Have a search on here for thermostat mod. It's all about fitting a cooler stat from the standard horrifically high temp one No7 - 2003 V8 Vogue

I've looked up how to do the thermostat upgrade, seams pretty straight forward. What's the correct coolant for our motors?

Great cheers for that. Looks like mine has the wrong coolant in it, I think it's teddy orange. I also think it has the wrong power steering fluid in it as that's red too and am sure it was green when I replaced the power steering hose on our last ffrr. It's a good bet it has the wrong transmission fluid in it too. Let's hope it has the right brake fluid in it. I know it has the right fuel in it, lpg and petrol, specifically BP ultimate, I thought I would treat it lol

Laughing yeah the cold climate pas fluid is green and the equivalent by ravenol is fluorescent green.hopefully you have the correct tranny fluid though .i recommend doing both diffs and transfer box oils whilst your at it as in my case (2004) ffrr had never been changed and was like mud..I put shell v power in my fatty as well. The wife's and daughters cars get Morrisons unleaded lol..

Supermarket fuel ruined my mother's diesel engines rav4. I see in our paperwork for the car it had new diffs fitted after a failure. One of the "specialist" land rover garages near me does a flush service on the transmission. I had our last ffrr booked in with them to have it done, never got round to it though because a kind drunk driver totally wrote it off.

Do you know how much of this I will need for a full refill of coolant?
