Windscreen shattered!

Typical off on holiday and travelling along nicely when stone hit just about dead centre behind mirror ( just where my fullfatRR sticker is) crack!!! Straight down and nice bullseye! Confused
Obviously gonna be insurance job ( With Admiral) anyone any recommendations as how best to go about getting it fixed, mobile or visit them etc, probably wait till back at home though. It's heated, tinted top ,acoustic ,plus auto dim mirrors etc .
Cheers

Think most (if not all) national windscreen replacement services are mobile - had mine replaced last year (via Admiral use autoglass), asked I'd I could call I to depot to get it fitted to be told they don't do fitting there any more

I've just had mine replaced using Auto Wndscreens. Really good job, Pilkington screen without me telling them to do so. It's just a shame that after 2 hours the fitter was doing the final bit (refitting the rear view mirror) when he found he'd fitted the wrong screen. Apparently the BMW connector for auto-lights and wipers is different to the later one!

So another new screen coming this Saturday. The good thing is I can drive without a care down newly resurfaced roads this week as I have a 'free screen' at the moment. Even better, all of the heating elements work so tomorrow morning should be fine Very Happy

When the fitter comes, get him to double check he has the right screen.....

Don't think you can insist on genuine LR screen (unless you pay extra for it)- I asked and was told it will be the same as - only difference I found it didn't have the LR logo had all the same part numbers it was graduated at the top, acoustic etc and was fitted fine - no leaks

I specified Pilkington with Auto Glass - they agreed straight away, just told me it might be a few extra days to source one - turned out that they had one locally and was fitted within a few days - they could have fitted it sooner than I was available.

The fact that there was a potential delay means that there was another brand available......

I could have gone to LR, but it was a bigger excess

BTW - I take it you mean 'cracked' - as 'shattered' would mean your car was full of little glass cubes and what was left in the screen, you couldn't have seen through Whistle

No real difference between Pilkington and LR

pilkington make the LR screens, the only thing that is different is that the LR screens have the LR logo on them.

Insist on a pilks screen

Insist they send 2 chaps to fit it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for replies , as stated it is cracked not shattered, looks like I'm going have wait till get home before getting it fixed, do I need tell insurance first or just get it fixed and let windscreen company sort out paperwork ? Will make sure it's right screen before letting fitter touch it, I'm back home on Friday in Lincolnshire till then.

When my screen needed to be replaced I called the insurance co to ask what the procedure was, they said to contact Autoglass, their repairer, and take it from there. That was in the days when they still had their own premises and I went there to have the work done. Now I think they come to you. They used a Pilkington screen and everything worked as it should afterwards. If your insurance policy says you can just contact the windscreen company that should be OK, but you can't go wrong checking with the insurers first. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Had a look online at Admiral's website it directs to Autoglass and allows you to book appointment and pay excess , so it's due to be fixed on Sat morning at home, put in message box I expect Pilkinton replacement as is fitted, lets hope it all goes well. I'll need buy another FFRR sticker now!
Let's hope rest of holiday doesn't hold anymore disasters!

Autoglass made a decent Job of mine. And they seem to know the score. I would call and check that they are getting you what you have asked for into stock.

They also need to bring new trim clips with them for the black trim either side of the screen, they will probably break them, however when autoglass did mine they had them anyway, worth checking though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Been apprehensive all week waiting for today, need not have worried, Autoglass turned up after text narrowing it down to 2 hr window. (15 mins into it) one technician first, he rang 2nd guy to confirm Pilkington glass 👍. He then started removing trims etc ( side trim clips broke as expected, but said 2nd guy had replacements) 2nd technician arrived with screen etc and they got on with it, took opportunity clean scuttle trim whilst it was off, screen in, new side trims unwrapped not just clips.
Top trim strip, soon back together.
Autoglass gets Top marks from me 😀👍
Amazing how clear a new screen is, feels like new car now. 😀
Thanks all for inputs etc.
