Ok, random, but over the last month my SC has developed what can only be described as a wobble in the form of a mild side to side rock at low speed. The slower the speed to more movement, the faster the speed the faster but less severe (if that makes sense). So it seems to be speed related? Not really noticeable at a crawl but appears as you move through 10mph and continues up to about 50mph then disappears.

This is felt under both acceleration and at a constant speed (including with the box in neutral which would eliminate drive train?) but isn't noticeable under braking.

I have checked suspension height for level, conducted a visual check of the undercarriage, checked wheel nuts for torque with nothing untoward found and also have no warnings or check lights.

Before I send it to be looked at and spend a fortune for a garage to investigate has anyone experienced similar or got any sensible suggestions as to what this may be?

Tyre pressures are 36 psi front 40 rear.
Tyres appear fine and free from flat spots.

Interesting thought about the hub nut, just need something high enough to jack the rear clear of the ground to check. I should feel play through the wheel correct? Then remove wheel for access and tighten if that's the case?

Absolutely, jack up all the corners one after the other and check for free play.

Very doubtful that it will be the hub nuts but if it was me I would be checking everything to do with suspension, steering and hub nuts.

Have you checked the rear bushes - I went through two sets (genuine RR parts) in four years of ownership last time I had them replaced ended up having a new hub carrier fitted - as they got worse it started to feel "loose" at the back end

Looks like a few things to try this weekend. Thanks all, I'll report back if I find the cause.

You could take it for an MOT and ask them to report any bush wear .

I would try replacing each wheel in turn with the spare to see if the problem goes away with a particular wheel change.

+1 on the buckled wheel. sounds like the exact symptoms I had.

Finally got this isolated to the rear left corner and has been confirmed today as a warped tyre making Stan the winner.

Interesting. I had exactly the same issue last week. Steering was fine and not juddering, but the car felt a bit vague and the rear of the car wobbled side to side under 35 mph.

Took it into a big chain tyre shop and explained I think I might have a damaged or warped tyre. They checked them all and said my front and rear suspension was damaged and needed new bushes and arms. They said they don't do suspension repairs and sent me on my way wobbly car and all.

Booked it into my trusty local garage who called me 2 hours later stating that my suspension was fine and that I have a badly warped rear nearside tyre. Popped a new tyre on and all is well.

Stupid tyre company though. Just goes to prove you can rarely trust anyone even in the profession. Had they done their job they would have got a new tyre order. In the end they charged nothing and had the car for an hour. Don't think I'll be using them again.

I think I might have damaged the inner sidewall on a pothole. Tom
