Just received a copy of the build sheet for my FFRR from JLR today.

it states: Euro Mapping DVD disc.

I thought all 2010-12 FFRR's had the stupid HDD system that only the stealer can update.

Any help on this would be appreciated..  Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

the dvd goes into the dealers computer and then the mapping is transferred via firewire to your hard drive.. ... - .- -.

Just out of curiosity, where is the fire wire socket?

Has any one tried connecting and updating these themselves? Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

the socket is to the right of the glove box fuse box...i dont think anyone here has tried to access the hard drive..
but loading something alternative like igo primo would be nice.. ... - .- -.

Surely it's got to be possible to copy maps from a hard drive to the car via a fire wire set up.

Just applying some logic, if the main dealers up load maps from. DVD to the system via the fire wire socket, surely copying maps to a hard drive and doing it via a fire wire cable will have the same effect?

The main dealer download the map to the hard drive and then upload to the car, I believe.

I only say this because when I had mine updated, the connection was lost so the download had to be re-started so the 45mins to 1hr morphed into almost two hours.

I would love for it to be as simple as putting a disc on a hard drive and then uploading but I wouldn't mind betting there is some security code or authorisation number somewhere.......really hope I am wrong though.

Doesn't the head unit take input from individual boxes? like the TV module.

So is there a Nav unit between the head unit and the firewire HDD maybe? Wouldn't it be great if, like Stan mentioned, a newer system e.g. igo primo could be fed into he head unit?

I think a lot of other LR vehicles have the same HDD system. So in addition to a queue of us forum members, there will be a huge wider LR customer base for whoever cracks this.

Who was that guy that offered audio/amp upgrades? Maybe we talk to him?

it just amazes me that 10 years ago, when I strayed to the dark side for a change (please forgive me.. )

I bought a VW Touareg with a fantastic head unit with a 30gb hard drive fitted. It stored all the maps, more music than you could shake a stick at and even pictures!

I upgraded both firmware and maps several times just by inserting a DVD.
