Thinking that my starter has packed up. First I thought it was the battery going down as I've been in need of a replacement for some time. It was making a sound like a cat coughing up a fur ball when starting on Thursday and Friday morning going to work, I got to work and ordered a new battery. Drove it home and after turning it off by the house it then failed to restart the second time, first time it really struggled making that noise. I even tried another battery with jump leads, nothing. Fitted a new battery today and nothing but a click. The dash lights up and everything comes on as normal but nothing but one click from under the bonnet. The penny then dropped, I think my starter motor has packed up.

I'm going to change the XYZ inhibitor switch first as that's just arrived back after refurbishment. 2004 RR 4.4 V8 Autobiography |

Right changed the XYZ switch and still didn't start. Got under it with an extension bar and hit the starter while somebody turned it over and it fired up. Sounded very rough the starter did first time but now it turns over every time which I find odd. I'm not convinced though that's the end of the issue even though the starter sounds ok and starts. 2004 RR 4.4 V8 Autobiography |

Paul there's tons of online chat about starter issues. Sounds like the solenoid is failing or in need of a bit of attention.
