A few other advantages come to mind, whilst you can get a top spec diesel and there are plenty about its not guaranteed. Where as all S/C's are at least a Vogue SE spec machine.

I would tend to say the petrol will have had a more pampered life where as the diesel possibly not. I'm not saying diesel owners don't look after things but there is a reasonable chance it might have been used as a family work horse - certainly the two TDV8's I looked at had had a hard life of family abuse. It's just anyone who has run a supercharged model for a couple of years or more would have wanted to run them rather than just having them for a car. 2005 E60 M5

How about the suspension? Is it different in the SC?

The main thing thats stopping me is the fuel. I can just picture filling it up all the time, and i dont think the savings on a potential diesel repair will give me comfort at the pump.

That's the same dilemma I'm having. Why pay the premium for petrol when the diesel models are cheaper and the running cost of fuel is also beneficial.

It's a shame you can't have them both for a trial for a month 😂

The car and its setup is the same for the diesel and the SC. there is no difference in the suspension components, gearbox, diffs or and of the other running gear.

Whilst I agree that the diesels can be bought and run as workhorses, when looking at cars of 7-10 years old it will probably have had several owners, and whilst some may have looked after it others may have not. And this goes for both SC and diesel.

Really you should just look at them all then buy on condition and maintenance. The running costs overall will be fairly high wether you buy the diesel or the petrol. At this age you are looking at a fair amount of routine part changes, suspension bushes will need attenention, fluids will need changing. ok you have the turbo issues on the diesel, but plenty run them to high Milages without issue, and while we see the problems on here, that's the nature of the beast that is a forum, you only shout about the problems!

Performance difference between the 2 is marginal in day to day driving, and while the petrol is smoother, the diesel is more efficient, the diesel is a better tow car but the petrol is faster overall. Swings and roundabouts.

I'm not trying the convince either way, just go and drive some and buy the nicest one you can find! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

You know what i've actually been trying to find somewhere i can rent these cars from! There are sites where people list their cars for rental.

The SC gets a electronic rear diff lock as standard. JLR should have made this standard across the range considering how little this upgrade costs. ______________________________

^ it does yes, but unless you are planning some serious off road action it doesn't Mable much difference, Terrain response pretty much makes it surplus to requirement. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Been thinking about this and swaying to the SC now as i will only be using the car on the weekends. So my question is now out of a choice between a 2005/2006 SC and a 2007 TDV8 what is the best choice? The TDV8 will be the facelift model with the nicer interior and terrain response (will not do off roading), will there be any other features the TDV8 will have?

If it's a weekend car ...Petrol! Forget mpg .... the noise of the V8 will have you grinning every time you put your foot down. You'll be on first name terms with your local petrol garage but at least you won't be giving people cancer in the dirty diesel Laughing

But Diesel if you are using it 5+ days a week. And towing. LPG supercharged? Still low mpg but less cost each fill up

should have a 3.5mm aux in so you can put you iPod on.....

I cant see that there should be much difference in price on the 07 diesels and 07 SC its just finding a nice one. If you aren't driving it that much and you can negotiate a nice one then i would go for a 07 SC. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Chawks: My 5 day commute to work is 2 miles, and i won't be using the RR (SC or TDV8), i'll be using a smaller car for that. So the RR will really be for evenings and weekends, short trips. On occasions will travel to Sheffield and London (once every 3 months). Just typing this out screams SC to me. And it would be nice having an exhaust you can modify to sound nicer.

However, if i choose SC then my choice is a 2005/6 one for £8/9k. Or a facelift 2007 for £12k/13k which is pushing my budget. But if i get the 05/06 then according to my man maths i'd be saving £2/3k over a facelift model, so it would ease the worries about the mpg a little.... Question

So i guess my choice is:

2005/2006 SC £9k
2007 TDV8 Vogue SE £11k
2007 SC £12k

Looking at the wiki the facelift model has different seats, air vents, lower wind noise, more storage...

If I may, I faced a similar situation a while back. I was only looking at petrol models as I do circa 4000 miles a year. Oh the joys of walking to work and back.

I'd totally written off diesels, and only looked for petrol. Until I happened upon my car on ebay. Yes, a TDV8. However, it was the colour I wanted, exterior and interior and had extensive history, so I bought it.

Guess what I'm trying to say buy on what is most important to you. Mine was colour then history, engine choice came last.

I do occasionally do short journeys in mine, then every so often take it for an Italian Test Drive as they say.

2 miles! ....walk or cycle that so even less fuel/tax/insurance etc - more petrol money for the SC Very Happy

All depends on if the extra cost of a facelift model is actually worth it? Is it going to make the driving experience any better or just look slightly newer on the outside. You can always facelift the older model if you wanted? Does the 05/06 model have cheaper road tax ? Not a big saving but who wants to give the govt more money than they take already

The advantage of the 05/06 is it retains the cable handbrake. Although I've never had a drama with my e handbrake.

The rlectronics on the 07/08 is reportedly better than earlier. But the 05/06 is reportedly better than previously.

Like said earlier it will comedown to personal choice. You have to drive both. ______________________________
