United Kingdom 2015 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Carpathian Grey
L405 Turbo Bank A Electronic control fault & more

Hi Everyone, 1st post from me, hopefully I'm in the right place!
Im 6 months in owning my first range rover-L405 2015 4.4 diesel. I do like it but thought i'd just share the following issues:
Dreaded limp home red triangle came up last week, diagnostics have turned up with Turbo Bank A Electronic control fault.
Not sure if thats linked to the EGR issues I've heard about..Mainly motorway use so hopefully not.
Other problems have been no power steering after stop/start restart (scary) and occasionally no rear wiper.
Anyway its with the dealers now so we'll see..
Has anyone else had these problems?
Cheers all!

You're in the right place - and welcome to the forum Thumbs Up

I've not heard of those issues so please keep us posted.

What mileage has the car done ?

Do you have a warranty ?

Hi Alistair, Yes it's a new one-Did a search online and nothing came up on those subjects.

So far i've been told that the electronic turbo control unit controls boost levels (to avoid over/under boost) and is connected to the turbo physically. Therefore the whole unit has to be changed which is a pretty big job.

Topix shows a recall for the remote drain, which made me think low battery and maybe the power steering isn't waking up when the stop/start comes back on being that its electric. Slightly wishful thinking though..

Rear wiper occasionally not working (although the wash does) but that problem hasn't reoccurred for a while.

It's done 18,000 miles and thankfully is under warranty... I'll ask what the cost would have been if it hadn't.
These problems this early are a bit unnerving though-I just sold a Cayenne i'd had for 12 years and 90,000 miles which only let me down once.

On the positive I really like it, bought a spare set of wheels with winters on for a 2000 mile ski trip and it was great.

I fitted the roof rail kit myself (very proud!) for the roof bars to carry skis etc.

Thanks for the welcome and reply!

I've had the rear wiper stop working once on my MY2015 4.4TDV8 too.
Started working again after half an hour (same journey, no ignition restart).
I thought it was just me Very Happy If it ain't broken, fix it till it is.

Just had a call from the dealer- Bank A Turbo centre bearing oil leak, entire unit will need to be replaced. Suggested that this is a manufacturing fault in the bearing and not indicative of the turbo's lifespan (at 18,000 miles-phew!)

Battery drain recall involves some wiring alterations and possibly new battery-this should cure the power steering issue.

Rear wiper-unexplained.

I get it back next week..

Update: Went to collect the car today, if it had been out of warranty the bill would have been about £3K.

All running great....For 8 miles, then Christmas tree dashboard & limp home triangle-back with the dealer now and lots of head scratching.

I think it's time for me to go back to German i'm afraid..Pity I really wanted to love the Rangie.. Big Cry

Sounds like you have been unlucky. My 2014 SDV8 is on 33k miles and has been faultless apart from a few electrical niggles which have now been sorted.

I'd consider looking into rejecting it if they are not able to properly fix it. 2014 SDV8 Autobiography Cool

Hi JasM Thats good to hear-i'll give them a decent chance to fix it as i really do like the car (when it works!) I suppose i'm comparing it too much to my old Cayenne..
I think they are just incredibly complicated cars which need the bugs worked out of them.
They probably 'fixed' the wrong part.
