2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black

In the SC is it not possible to get the retractable gear stick? (hope thats the right description) its just that all SC's I've looked at regardless of age have the gear stick whereas most diesels post 2010 don't have the gearstick.

Thats because all supercharged L322's have a six speed box ZF's 6HP 26 in the 4.2 and 6HP 28 in the 5.0 and they use cable selectors and the 8 speed in the 4.4 diesel used an electric selector . 2008 MY Supercharged

Thanks. Helps a bit as a member says dpf was introduced in 2010 but he's not certain. Might have to ask the LR dealer then

Edit. My BMW finally went on sale today Sad

Is this a fair summary?

Go SC if you do under 10k miles a year as the cost of fuel is less to fill compared to the cost that filling up a TDV8 but more frequent? Doesn't it break even?

Additionally the potential of turbo failures and dpf issues is also negated with an SC potentially saving you thousands?

I'm just curious whether the running of an sc even with a range of about 260 miles is cheaper than running a diesel due to the cost of the fuel being higher and component failure on a diesel.

The tanks are nominally the same size and whilst it will cost slightly more to fill the diesel due to the higher fuel cost per liter it will travel a reasonably distance further on the same fuel. Hence having greater economy.

The reason for having a S/C over a diesel when doing a low annual mileage is that the oil burner will not take kindly to repeated short journeys where as it wont bother the S/C (or any petrol) as much.

Whilst the cost per mile on the diesel is lower if one issue with the DPF/Turbo chargers/Fuel pumps etc occurs it will offset any fuel saving.

Obviously if you are doing big miles a year there is more of a saving on the fuel so the odd extra repair bill will be less of a problem.

I do about 5k a year and bought a S/C a few weeks ago. So far its reported to have done 20mpg as we tend to use it on longer journeys but I havn't tried to get that economy. I believe its possible to get late 20's from a diesel maybe even 30 but I'm told you've got to work for it. Lets say it were to manage 25mpg, its a 25% improvement BUT if I do some quick maths the cost of fuel based on 116pl petrol and 118pl diesel is £1300 and £1050 a year (15mpg about £1700, 30mpg about £900), so a saving of £250 - £800 a year. - Lovely but it won't go very far if it needs a couple of replacement turbos!

(I have taken best and worst case figures here, whilst some might get just 15 from the S/C (or less!) that driver would be looking at low 20/s from an oil burner, as I get 20 from my S/C I would probably get late 20's from an oil burner - thats down to driving style and figures from the same end of the scale should be compared. 2005 E60 M5

Fantastic reply. Truly appreciated. Just as I thought diesel it is, I've now changed my mind back to petrol!

But surely stuff can go wrong on the SC version as well...? Plus the TDV8s are a bit cheaper than the SC, by around £2-3k.

Also, is it true that the SC version has a slightly firmer suspension set up?

I guess you're right. The difference of 2-3k is a lot of fuel. It's why I've constantly batted back and forth with diesel vs petrol all the time. One hand you save on fuel with diesel but the potential costs for repairs is higher(?) but then the cost of a supercharged and fuel to boot means they essentially break even?

Although things can go wrong on an S/C it's also stuff that can go wrong on a diesel so let's say the electronic hand brake or RSE but they are common to both model. The point im making is there seem to be more things to go wrong on the diesel.

I would disagree with the supercharged being more expensive, seemingly it's the same money I certainly couldn't have bought any tdv8 in the same condition as my S/C for the money I paid! In most cases the S/C are not selling though so I would say most places would take an offer on them or throw in some extra bits/work etc 2005 E60 M5

Given the choice and expect mileage, I would get the s/c. Indeed I had a similar choice recently and bought a s/c. Though I did come from a turbo cayenne so felt the diesel would be too much tractor

Its a tough one i admit. But for me the £2-3k savings is quite significant.

No rush yet anyway. Need to wait until someone buys my BMW, then will prob spend a month or two looking. I have noticed that good TDV8 sell very quickly on autotrader.

On another note, how do i ensure a car is a Vogue SE, rather than a Vogue?

Look for in car entertainment. Rear seat screens. Heated and cooled seats. 2 knobs either side of the clock from what I recall.
