Advice / thoughts please on cause of Limp Mode

After driving for 15 mins the Range Rover (08 TDV8 Vogue) went into what I would describe as Limp Mode as we accelerated (gently, note!) onto the M65. We returned home with the engine in limp mode OK. When in limp mode the engine would not go above 2000rpm. No lights on dash (i.e. No CEL) showed. With the car home iand having been left for a couple of hours, it restarted fine and engine would go above 2000rpm. I took it out for a run and everything appeared fine.
So, I'm puzzled as to what has caused this (note, I have not had the chance to check if any fault codes exist)
Anyone had a similar problem ?

Had this with mine and it turned out to be a full DPF - had a new one done under warranty. Don't know if that helps? 2005 L322 Vogue Gold gone

Exact same on my TD6. Turned out to be bad fuel and fuel filter. Drained tank, changed filter. All back to normal. Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

Ironically, we were actually setting out on a 70 mile run to get everything warm and cleared out since the car has really only had short journey (less that 11 miles) recently. Am I right in assuming that a long run will clear the DPF or will it need changing?

Intercooler hoses is a distinct possibility on a 3.6 TDV8 - usually hard acceleration though & a message along the lines of Special Programs Off

I didnt think the 2008 diesels had dpf filters and they were added to later year models! Would check the hoses but they are usually athrow loads of black smoke out of the back at the same time.

When the performance dropped off, I checked exhaust and no signs of smoke. Just very limited performance. The five mile journey to get home was done without drama, just went very slowly.
When I restarted the car after a couple of hours and went for a run, performance was back to normal. Hard acceleration was accomplished without any signs of exhaust smoke.
I briefly checked the turbo hoses and could not see any immediate signs of rupture.
I will check again tomorrow and report back when I get fault code readings

You might need to take the hoses off to see a crack. That has been some people's experience. ______________________________

Checked hoses and no sign of splits or leaks and as the car has driven fine for the last week or so I have discounted this as the root cause of the problem.
Since this first occurred I have had the RR to my local garage and no fault codes have been registered.
Driving the car today, I had the same thing happen again, only this time I got a dash message stating 'Special Programmes Fault'. Engine power was cut back and I pulled off the road to investigate further. On selecting the first special programme, I got a message on the central display stating 'Hill Decent Programme' fault.' I then selected normal drive mode and engine restarted fine and car behaved itself for the rest of the journey.
Given today's experience, my thoughts are
1. If Special Programmes have a fault but are not selected why would this manifest itself in a drop in engine power
2. If I have a problem with the Special Programmes functions, I would expect this to show in the LR specific OBD codes rather than the generic codes which is what I suspect my local garage were able to read.
Any thoughts / advice would be very welcome.

My money is also on the hoses.

Take off the top passenger side hose and have a look under the webbing that's where they go. 5min job then you will know. You cant normally see the split without removing the hose. Thumbs Up

Don't take the warning messages too literally as they are not always accurate.
The software can't always detect the exact fault so resorts to "flash random lights and messages until the owner panics" mode, in the hope of improving dealer profits.
Still sounds like a hose leak to me

OK, so I clearly didn't check the hoses properly.
Got home and followed NMJ's guide (thanks btw NMJ, this shows me what I hadn't done!). Took both upper hoses off and found N/S hose with a 60mm split under the protective sheath. O/S hose had no split, but was clearly ageing. Both will now be replaced and hopefully this will cure the problem.
However, when I removed both hoses, I found oil residue inside the hoses. Is this a sign the turbos need changing ?
