2006 Facelift - Headlight Wiring

Does anyone know the correct wiring for a light upgrade from 2004 to 2006-2009?

I did the conversion myself, though I think I have a problem with the wiring to the headlights. The bi-xenon shutters are engaged all the time unless I disconnect the battery (or remove the plug to the lights). If I disconnect the battery or remove the light plug, I can hear both headlights clicking and see the shutters moving behind the xenon lens.

I find that I'm getting flashed by on-coming drivers even with both lights adjusted all the way down, and I there is no difference in the output of the xenon light between dip and main beam.

These are the all the wiring diagrams I found for the lights, and I know the last 2 are for the 2010 conversion. I used pin 5 from the old 9-way connector to pin 5 on the new 16-way connector (main beam solenoid), though I suspect something is wrong as they are always engaged. Any help?

Check the purple wire, if this has been used for the shutter power the shutter will be lifted all the time as the purple wire is a permanent live from the diagnostic socket for the old lights which will be keeping the shutter powered continually. I had this exact problem and in the end I cut the purple wire and wired the shutter into the main beam supply so when the main beam is on the shutter will be powered

I wonder if different years cars have different colour wires? My 2004 model has no purple wire.

What I have found today is all the wiring diagrams I've got are wrong for my car. Pin-5 (white/black wire) from the old connectors should not be connected to pin-5 on the 06 connector as this is permanent +12v and engages the main beam solenoid all the time. This wire is not required.

These wiring diagrams also don't show the difference between n/s and o/s wiring as they are correct only for the n/s wiring. The o/s dip beam is white/blue and the o/s main beam is yellow/blue.

What does get the main beam solenoids working correctly is connecting pin-5 on the 06 connector to the main beam wiring (white/green on n/s and yellow/blue on o/s), so that pin-5 and pin-10 are both connected to the old pin-9 wire.

What also gets the headlight washers working correctly is to install a mini high-pressure headlight pump in the centre hole in the 04 washer reservoir (the pumps are available on ebay for £17 and you'll need the rubber grommet too). The connector needs modifying slightly to remove a rib so the connector fits. Then leave an old headlight wiper arm motor plugged into the connector on the n/s and tuck it in the space behind the headlight light. Hey presto, fully working high pressure headlight washers, which also keeps Mr MOT man happy. Thumbs Up Current:
