Range Rovers really are a different league

Hi all , just back from a few days in the uk, i hired a focus or the like but was given a 2016 E220d because im such a nice chap !!!!

Anyway , i had a 320 cls for 6 years and loved it but sat in a friends L322 and decided to buy one. Back to my story, did about 500 miles in the E class and started pricing a new one in ireland, about 60k for a year old one. I was looking for a 2012 RR to replace my 2007 SE with a budget of about 50k but my 2007 blew its turbo last week and thats cost a coupe of k so purchase was put back for a few months. Anyway got back into my 2007 about 2 hours ago and wow, what a class above the merc. I know im preaching to the converted here but mine is a 235k kilometre car, its in great nick and well looked after but still what a machine. RR is in my future for as long as poss. 2015 4.4 AB

I agree that they have that certain something and if well looked after drive very well even at high mileage. Mine has done 165k miles and apart from the td6 noise feels smooth, solid and relaxing to drive as always. Tom

Yep, I generally don't drive the FFRR during the week. But every time I drive it on the weekend I'm amazed at how nice a car it is. Mines the same as yours, a 2008 tdv8 with nearly 265,000km ______________________________

When i got back into the RR after the E class , i was actually quite shocked at the amount of extra space in the RR. My two daughters were with me and they love the RR ( 16 and 12 ) anyway but they really enjoyed getting back in it. The only thing they missed was the mood.lighting in the merc which was changed hourly if not more often.

They really is nothing else that comes close. 2015 4.4 AB

Agree, the full fat is by far the most superior motor I've driven. Already scoping out what I would move onto next but think it will definitely be another Rangerover Thumbs Up

Totally agree, I currently drive an X1 and whilst it doesn't fill me with the dread for the bong of doom it does very little in the way of smiles, enjoyment or happiness. Its a car. The Range I had was a privilege and I always felt great driving it. The space will never be beaten by anything.

Has to be said that a base model Range Rover is more than twice the price of a Merc E220D

If the polution lobby get their way , by 2020 , we will need some clever gent to come up with some sort of conversion kit to convert our diesels to something a bit greener.
Their will be plenty of donor L405's with blown up Tdv6 engines that will make luxury hybrids when they fail out of warranty. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

How reliable compared to other 4x4s out there though? Does that extra £0000's keep you on the road or just make the sitting on the hard shoulder more comfortable ?

Yes, this is something that makes me nervous when thinking of buying another. Will it just be banned? I guess its the same when lead free fuel first came out. Most cars quickly adapted to it but I wonder what happens to the diesels. Already at £500 tax a year can it go higher or will they just out right ban them?

Diesel is only an inner city matter, and that's only to raise taxes. If every diesel car was scrapped tomorrow they would just move the tax to something else.

I have driven a HGV which was running on compressed natural gas. That's supposed to be cleaner and it was plenty powerful enough. Maybe it would filter down to cars.

As for the RR in general, there is no finer way to travel than in the cab of a recovery truck. Chauffeur driven on almost every trip. Sad
