If you have RDS activated then you are probably getting the following:
"RDS stations offer the following
features:
•Where a radio station is broadcast on several
frequencies, the set automatically switches to
whichever frequency offers the best
reception.
•Once the RDS signals have been processed,
the station name appears in the display.
•Additional information can be shown or called
up in the display (e.g announcements in text
Programme type (PTY)
Further information can also be received via
RDS. Certain stations broadcast details of the
programme type (PTY), e.g news, sports, pop,
culture, etc.
If reception is poor or if there is considerable
interference, it may take some time for the PTY
details to be available.
NOTE: PTY can also be used for disaster
warnings. If the station is broadcasting this type
of programme, 'ALARM' appears in the display."
If that is so then switching off RDS should stop it. John
