Bloody hell! Well done Jayboy. That's a fair bit more space. Might have to look at the HSE Lux or the First Edition model and see if it suits. I did have a Disco 4 and thought it was great so it's food for thought. Thank you |

I would always expect a Disco to be more practical than a Rangie.... |

Go look at one first. A nice car but far removed from what we know as a Discovery. Especially check out the back end. No split tailgate, silly shelf thing which if you sit on it will enable you to clean the bumper with the back of your trouser legs. Then see how close your napper comes to those super pointed tailgate corners. If you're over about 5 foot 10 you will need a tin hat to prevent a nasty injury.

I looked at, and sat in, a D5 last week. I thought it looked good, neater than the D4 but at the expense of its van-like practicality. The roof at the back is a lot lower. At 6'3" I thought the top of the windscreen unattractively low compared to the RR and the corners of the upper tailgate did look ominous. On the plus side the towing tech seems amazing and the 2l version is apparently great off road due to its light weight and the 'off road launch control' or whatever it is called. It was not available to drive, but I was told that the 3.0V6 felt much like the RR with that engine (mzplg's description of RRS with a bigger boot is right). The relationship between the D4 and D5 is probably similar to that between 322 and 405.

It does look low, I like sitting high in the L322 with a command of the road. Not sure of something the height of an x5. Not seen it in the flesh though I am yet to be convinced. 2005 L322 Vogue Gold gone

I've seen it in the metal and the exterior is very impressive but I too like a tall vehicle. I can forgo an extra mile an hour around a tight bend for comfort and a commanding driving position. I'd like to see one up against a ffrr because the one in the showroom was away from everything else and I presume was set to access mode. The thing that put me off it was the interior didn't compare with what I've already got but you can see LR's point because if they made it look as nice inside who'd pay another 20k for a full fat. |
