Hi All,
We have a 2004 L322 Vogue with the early type Savnav head unit (non touch screen).
The monitor began to take a green "tinge" and started to flicker. This got worse and I had rolling lines and more green tinge and the monitor would occasionally go off. The back light seems to stay on however the display etc... is gone.

Now the Satnav head unit display had given up as it has been getting progressively worse over the last few months.

The unit still plays music and no doubt performs as it always did. The unit lights up which I think suggests the LCD is ok(?).

I've read a lot about the Vogue unit not being easy to upgrade due to the analogue clock and integrated amplifier.

Can anyone advise me as to what my best options are please? If I need to get this repaired, where should I go?
Has anyone had these YIK50030 units to bits to see if it can be fixed?

Bit confused - what is the difference between the "monitor" and the "SatNav Head Unit Display" ?

The screen itself is pretty reliable, more likely the problems are coming from the satnav unit and the video unit in the rear left boot cubby. Worth checking for damp, connections and functionality back there first. (Do you still have an analogue tv unit or are you upgraded to DVB ? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

thanks for the replies.
For clarity, in my post the words screen, monitor, SatNav etc... are all meant to be understood as the LCD display.
Basically the LCD display seems relatively dead. No Radio info, computer, satnav map... nothing. It does seem to light up slightly as a basic back light but no information on that screen at all.

Garmin etc... won't help with setting my clock or seeing which radio station I am no.

I will check the wires in the boot but wobbling them makes no difference (I haven't inspected the pin terminals).

If something needs a repair, what other options do I have? I've read about installing the BMW head unit but I'm guessing my Amp etc... won't work nor will my steering wheel controls etc...

What do other users do with the Vogue system to upgrade them and what functions do you retain?

got the same issue...have a wee look at the blue connector pins on the tv module...

I've got a brand new lcd screen that if you're sure its the screen at fault, I'm open to offers on.

Thanks to everyone who has replied here. I have just been out for a poke around the wires and i can't see anything untoward at the rear of the head unit. It is raining out there but i couldn't see the corresponding cables in the rear compartment. Do they plug into the rear of the satnav unit?

Just a brief update. I checked all the plugs and sockets i could find and they are all in good condition. I put it all back together but it still didn't bring the monitor back to life. Then we went for a bool and after about half an hour it started to flicker and slowly came back to life! It still flickers but its is fine in the main.
This feels like damp is drying out but there is no damp or corrosion to see. This has to be a lose connection or something usual but where do i specifically look?
Is the display "generated" in the head unit or in some device in the boot area? How do i troubleshoot this please?

Did you remove the sat nav unit from its mounting and check the two plug / socket pins on the rear of it? If you didn't I would.
Also it's worth checking the condition of the upper tailgate rubber seal, particularly at the two top corners. If it hasn't been replaced it's probably due.

Yes i removed the 3 x 10mm bolts and removed the satnav player. It was all dine however initially i hoped to see a problem because there was a tiny hint of a rust discolouration on the rear of the satnav player. When i pulled the plugs they were perfect and i looked at the screen as i wiggled and plugged these but there was no effect to suggest it was the cause.
I haven't looked at the rear seals at all.

Check the blue connector to the tv tuner in the back. This was what was causing my screen to randomly go off. No7 - 2003 V8 Vogue

Three options I can help either here -

1. a self repair I worked out myself on my old m5 which worked well:

2. Check out the for sale I have a screen only a couple of years old for sale very rare most are 15+ now and prone to the same failure.

3. If your brave and have some money do my nbt retrofit

Hi Folks, I lived with this issue since reporting it but I bit the bullet and bought a Mk4 GPS DVD player.
I plugged it in but it made not difference at all.
I checked the blue and white plug on the TV tuner and they both look ok.

I would expect the display to change if the tuner was unplugged but aside of the backlight it never flinched.

Anything else I can look at folks??
How do I troubleshoot this please?
