L405 Rear Seat Entertainment & iPad Integration...

Attempting to utilize archaic technology with current technology.

If an iPad has wifi/internet and is capable of streaming NFLX and the vehicle's RSE has AV in... Is there a way to connect the iPad to those inputs?

I have seen adapter wires for component cables to iPad but then stumbled across these AV ones below but no information or reviews. Would these cables allow the iPad to communicate with the monitors? Anyone on here have success doing this?

I used exactly that cable to stream videos from an old IPOD into a 2007 VSE which has different RSE. Still have the cable some place but not seen a lightning version of it yet.

If I can find the cable I can try it with an IPOD but all the IPADs are Lightning connectors.

Depending on where you're driving, you'd be lucky to get a decent enough signal for the entire journey to stream over cellular.

Netflix lets you download content onto some mobile devices now - downloading would be a better way to go.

As above, I've got one of those cables in a drawer and used it on an 07 with RSE, but you'd need an old ipad2 to still use one of those connectors and I don't think there is a lightning port equivalent.

Lightning is all digital, but the RSA plugs are analogue.......

What input options do you have on the car ? Any digital ones ?

I use a wireless flash drive and stream films to the ipads from that.

I gave up using the small headrest monitors a while back. The iPads can all watch different things and you can get a lot of films on the large SD cards or 2TB wireless drives so everyone is happy. Tom

Can you explain that Wireless streaming to an iPad in more detail?

We're Apple wall to wall, but i've not heard of being able to stream to an iPad from an SD card or Wireless hard drive & surely a 2TB hard drive would need power of some sort so how does this work in the car?

I decided against RSE & we all have iPads so would have just bought or a film from iTunes onto them for longer journeys as the kids iPads are not Cellular or they'd just watch/play what's already on the devices, but this streaming you mention sounds quite interesting as i've a NAS with PLEX server on it & this has hundreds of films that i could easily extract onto an external hard drive.

Not ours... it is an older device. I don't recall which it version it is but it uses the traditional rectangular plug.

our Q7 has built-in in wife and we have no difficulty streaming video on the go... we anticipated a few issues in the mountains but outside of some minor buffering we did not come across any real problems.

we download most of the movies however space limited because of the other applications and data stored on the device and even when downloaded we still would like to display the video into the headrest as opposed to the iPad. https://instagram.com/_.iconoclast/

If you have existing films on a portable hard drive you can buy the Kingston Mobilelite Wireless hub. This has an internal battery and can power external hard drives and SD cards. It then creates a mobile hotspot you can log into from the ipad, or any phone/computer with wifi. I have the G2 but there is a newer G3 model out.

For small simplicity you can use a SanDisk Connect, this has internal memory and takes SD Cards on top. Has a 10 hour battery life but can be charged when in use by USB.

My original solution was to use a hard disk with wifi built in so have a Seagate Wireless Plus 1TB and that works well too, but obviously does not take SC cards on top.

All options are relatively cheap and work well. I like the fact that they can be accessed by multiple devices all watching different things. Tom

Glad to be of help.

I'm intrigued by the Audi Q7 option you have of a built-in wife. I think it would be more problematic and high maintenance than one of my solutions. Wink Tom
