With the help of the excellent how-to in the Wiki I attempted this today. However, having swapped out the original seal with a new one, then replaced everything, I then found the leak remained owing to the spindle having corroded. Having clocked that there was actually room for two seals - with the additional seal further back along the spindle and away from the corrosion I decided to add a second seal.

Looking at the motor with the trim cover off, I came to the conclusion that you can do this repair in situ, with a little care, thus saving a fair bit of time and effort. Just thought this might speed up the process for people yet to do this repair / mod.

Add that useful info to the article in the wiki, no one will see it here when they do the fix...  Pete

How long does this leak take to start? I have a Nov 2010 manufactured facelift L322 and intend to keep it for another couple of years or so. Does the face lift model also suffer with this problem? I'm wondering if I should be doing a bit of preventative maintenance? 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

Hard to say. Mine is 10 years old and has just started but if you were to get on and replace the seal with two seals then it would prevent the spindle from corroding in the first place!

Could this be added to the Wiki please? Saves a good bit of time and effort if you are just repairing the leak!
