Looking for people experience on the type of cameras to go for without going OTT. It's just to cover outside for a bit more peice of mind.
We are in a sheltered ended of a shared driveway and do have a couple of street lights outside that cover the path that goes round the front and side of the house, with a 5ft high hedge separating it from our driveway.

I have no problem in running the appropriate wires through the loft to the main box and then connect it to the home network etc. Regards

I have a Swann system that seems pretty good. There are various models, mine a 16 camera one, though I only use 12.

Easy to connect up, connect to router & there is a mobile app so I can connect & see what's going on from anywhere.

It also records.

If you have a home network that implies you might have a NAS device. Many IP cameras will record to those and most have installable apps to sync it to some of the cloud storage providers. That way the recordings are impossible to steal. Most scallies know they need to take the recorder if CCTV is around but they can't nick the whole of AWS or Google

I use Nest wireless cameras. Easy to set up and can be viewed on any IOS device. Currently watching them on my Mac in the office.

Bit pricey but do the job and can record up to 10 days on the remote Nest server. Easy to access the history and save to youtube if required.

I've just upgraded my system after my brother bought this kit, i was seriously impressed with the quality.

I've bought the exact same kit and I can clearly read reg plates from it. It's also power over ethernet so only one wire to run to each camera and the small RJ45 ethernet plug to feed through holes.

The app and system is also really easy to use unlike my previuos 2 systems especially reviewing footage.

You've just got to supply your own HDD.

i have no lighting at the front of my house Mark, well except for a street light on the road so i have a stand alone infrared light that helps the cameras see better at night..

By range - do you mean angle of vision, or zoom capability ?

To see at night, the camera needs some kind of light - some cameras are more sensitive and can operate with lower light, switching automatically to black & white as that allows them to go to lower light levels. All the ones with built in Infra Red illuminators do that - and the ones Andy posted have those.

Depending on your location, street lighting, other ambient lighting etc, they may not even need the IR. If your in a very dark location, you may need additional lighting to increase the range. If you don't want to install visible floodlights, then you can buy Infra Red floodlights that will do the job and augment the ones on the cameras.

@Alistair - it was more to do with how clear is the pictures when an object/person is, say, 15,20,25m away

Let me get a couple of shots when it goes dark, as I do have a couple of street lights to the front and one to the side which will probably help

that will make them alot better, the only light in that video is from a few distant security lights, it's a private track behind the houses to the garages so there's no street lighting

My thoughts on camera placement was going to be

1 facing the garage (the green car is parked in front of it
then in similar positions as per the photos, with one overlooking the FF completely

Rather than start a new topic

Had 2 of may cars vandalised this morning, fortunately they left the Rangie untouched.

Looking for a recommendation on CCTV, I know I will need at least 8 cameras to cover my property (probably 12 or 16 would be better). I live in the country so would need something that will work at night with very low light, not bothered about having months of recording time, but good resolution would be good. Cameras would all be mounted 5-6 meters up.

I am thinking about a swann system, but before I shell out £500+. Would be good to have some advice from those who already have systems 56 TDV8 Vogue SE
