I think Rich86 just nailed it: enjoy the L322 now that it is still a relatively modern/reliable Rangie, then in 2/3 years time (the last L322 will be 7 years old!) it will be time to jump on the L405 Bandwagon Wink Thumbs Up l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Just my pennies worth , what do you drive now ? Personally i would pick a l322 and get an AB. A l405 maybe be a better car in general but you would get a top spec AB in a l322 with change as opposed to a l405 with a 3.0 engine that while incredibly smooth didnt even feel as strong as my 3.6. When i drove one

Again just my opinion and obviously you should drive a good few examples of each before you decide.

I will.add im looking to change to l322 AB soon but i couldn't afford a l405 in the spec i would like anyway Very Happy 2015 4.4 AB

There seems to be some people who aren't keen on the 3.0 but I've owned three and they are great. Sure the 4.4 is great too in a different way and I'll probably buy one later this year but don't be put off by those who haven't driven one regularly. And if you are unsure about performance, just remember the 3.0 L405 is quicker to sixty than the 3.6 and the 4.4 l322.

The 405 is an excellent piece or engineering but is far less DIY friendly so will therefore be comparatively more expense to maintain.

Small example...I had a xenon bulb go. Looked at getting a bulb (£98 from ducky dan) and fitting myself but given the choice of removing the front bumper to get the headlight off or removing air boxes, hoses ect from behind the headlamp unit to get access meant that I ended up going to the dealers ( to avoid a cock up that would then cause future warranty problems).

£35 labour ( plus the £120 they wanted for the bulb) ! £155 to change a b Censored y bulb FFS Rolling Eyes
I imagine the 322 would have been a DIY job at £40 for the bulb and 15 minutes of my time. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

^^^Absolutely. I replaced the Xenon bulb on my L322 this summer (it did die on the way to the MOT - seriously!) I think I paid circa £60 is for Philips genuine ones from a specialist as I needed it that day. LR didnt have them (they were arount £90 IIRC.)

Anyway: lift the bonnet, unscrew the plastic cap on the back of the headlight, twist off and pull the bulb, reverse process for the new one - make sure not to touch the bulb with your fingers. It only took minutes. So indeed on that case the L322 is more DIY Thumbs Up

That said if they only charged you £35 for fitting the bulb, they had a good technique, on are very quick taking the airbox and hoses out, since £35 for a dealer is 15/20 min max of labour. it is not that bad - and yes bulbs are not cheap - but they are not for any modern car, not just L322/L405. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

One additional item I would consider would be the likely mileage being driven on an annual basis. At the moment for less than 35k there are only two L322 on the LR website Approved scheme. The L405 are more common at main dealers with the 2 year warranty pack. As I drive at least 35k miles each year, the L405 would be a better bet, even given the initial outlay.

Yet, if only keeping for 2 to 3 years, maybe the L322 would suit a lower mileage driver.

Hi , as you drive the same as i do , a 12 AB or SE would be a big step up wirh toys and gearbox , etc.

Obviously, warranty is important but surly one can be purchased. I admit to being biased towards the l322 overall shape and having only driven the 3.0 l405 it didnt make me.want to have one. Just my humble opinion 2015 4.4 AB

The L322 is a lot farther down its depreciation curve than the L405. It also costs significantly less. Advantage L322 Both are very nice cars. Yes, the L405 is based on tech that is a decade newer. It should damn well be better. Advantage L405. It all depends on: which one you like; which one you can afford; and how much $/£/€ you want tied up in a car. To me, the L322 is a fantastic luxury and I love it. The L405 is not in my budget, but I'd be very happy if it was.

A hard one, the L322 is a very classic, iconic design. I don't think the L405 will age so gracefully and even today I struggle to tell the difference between an L405 and L494 but for the time being I think they are utterly fabulous!

The L322 Euro NCAP rating is "only" 4, things have moved on a lot and it's a dated to view to think driving a 4x4 is the safest place to be. In fact the family ix35 and B Class, both more modern Euro boxes are a safer place to be than my L322.

So the L405's rating of 5 swings it for me in the end. Thumbs Up 2006 4.2 SC

The L322 is still part of the classic and iconic RR box design however with that comes outdated chassis and tech. I like both but for different reasons. The L322 is the last of an era and it's simplicity is what I admire the most. It rides well, it has grunt, it doesn't disappoint. The L405 is more current, the weight loss is noticeable especially when pushing the vehicle in the twisties, the minor improvement in fuel efficiency is a plus and the acceleration is improved. In the end, it is your cash, your car, your call. https://instagram.com/_.iconoclast/
