Problems starting the engine

Hi all

Right, 3 days after purchasing my 1st FFRR and its having issues starting. Took me about 2-3 minutes this morning of turning starter over, and then trying again and again. Did it again after being in a meetings for 4 hours. Have spoken to dealer as have 3 month warrenty and they are going to take a look tomorrow but wanted to ask if anyone has had similar problems. Could be something as simple as battery maybe???
Also, and this might be a complete coincidence but it seems to start better when I have my foot pushing on the break pedal.
Any advice would be great

Cheers FFRR TD6 HSE

If you are having problems starting it from cold it could be needing new glow plugs

Thanks mate. So far it's always been when cold. Hopefully the dealer will get to the bottom of it for me. FFRR TD6 HSE

+1 for the glow plugs, even if 1 or 2 have failed then the engine can have trouble starting.

Try cycling the ignition twice before starting, this will run the glow plug timer twice.

Is the engine turning over?

Can you see if there are any air bubbles in the clear fuel line that goes to the filter?

Just heard from garage. Low pressure fuel pump apparently. Should be getting it sorted tomorrow. FFRR TD6 HSE

Get them to replace both, reason being when the low one begins to fail, it puts more pressure on the high pressure, so often that will fail afterwards, it happened to me on my 530d (same engine).

You should notice a great improvement in performance and economy once you have them both replaced.

Ask them to take a picture of it and the electrical harness connected to it. Just for interests sake.

Mine failed a few months back because the the connector was melted and charred and was shorting. Not good considering the fuel pump sits in the tank. LR know about this issue and have been in touch with the dealership that fixed it.

It cost about £500 to put right but was only 1.5 hrs labour. The rest was parts...

I'll ask about them doing both. However its under warranty and they may not be prepared to fix something that isnt actually broken at the moment. Worth an ask mind.
I'll just be glad to have it back and working. FFRR TD6 HSE
