Calling the FBH guru's.......

So I try to avoid asking for help till I have exhausted all the obvious routes/threads/wiki/Google !! Embarassed

After fixing the heated seats the FBH was next on the list, it has remote heating as well as park heating according to build sheet but ignoring that at the moment, just trying to get the manual park heating to work! Evil or Very Mad

So, this is the scenario:
- Outside temp is 4 degrees
- Get into car, go to settings on touchscreen, select manual heating
- Selection goes green and orange light starts flashing on switch
...... and that's about it Rolling Eyes nothing else happens

So diagnostics so far:
- IID says 0002 error on FBH "in theory" glowplug but in reality can mean anything
- resetting error, just comes back
- had a battery that drained in 10 mins if doors open so fitted new battery
- removed FBH and disassembled
- cleaned out soot from combustion chamber
- tested glow plug and resistance was in range
- stripped pcb and tested the three resistors and all in range

What next?????

There is no sound of the fuel pump running, I have had a look under the RR and cant see it - it isn't at the front of the spare wheel well as per the PDF in the wiki. Only possibility I have found is on the inside of the offside chassis rail high up by the suspension as per pic.

If i go into IID both CCF options for park/fbh heating are enabled, but if I display the live value for park heating and FBH both say "No" even when the little orange light is flashing....

The only other odd thing, is i thought you could enable a residual heating/park heating mode if you were sitting in the car after a journey by holding down the "max" button - I didn't think this used the FBH but just recycled warm/cool air from the engine but this doesn't seem to be working either.

So running out of ideas, other than try and track down the fuel pump and see if this is knackered.... Crying or Very sad

Any additional thoughts?

Cheers,

MM

This may or may not help as I have a supercharged with FBH but when my park heating packed up it was due to a failed auxiliary cooling pump , now I'm assuming yours is a desiesel but it does sound like something is not circulating somewhere. 2008 MY Supercharged

Thanks Axle, my next step would be to try and test all the individual components, fuel pump, water pump on FBH, glow plug but I don't have (or feel inclined to make ) a bench test rig.........

Location of fuel pump would probably be my next step after that it might be call out the webasto guy Confused

Cheers,

MM

These things are really simple. If it's not firing and you tested the electrics, it will be fuel pump. You should hear it clicking every second on initial stat up gradually rising to about half second intervals. It only takes a small leak in the pick up side to prevent fuel getting drawn up. Try disconnecting the burner end to see if it's pumping. If it fails to ignite the pump gets shut down so listen carefully as soon as you test. No7 - 2003 V8 Vogue

Fuel pump is located nearly central to the vehicle, between the rear axle and fuel tank.
You can just about see it, get to the clips securing the fuel pipes and the supply plug.

Is the remote switched off. As I wired an aftermarket remote on mine if it's on the aux heating doesn't come on. My fuel pump doesn't start to tick for a good 30 or 40 seconds as it seems to cycle a purge etc first .
My 2003 fuel pump looked like it had died but it was fine. They pulse so it's not like a normal pump . After much messing around I sent the board to French mike he replaced those resistors and it's still working after 2 years and I use it a lot

I am in the middle of an fbh fault find on ours.
You can get a testing loom via Martin, disco3.co.uk, plus you'll need an obd/usb converter.
You then use Webasto's own software to run the heater via a laptop.
Not got mine to run yet but tbf I believe my fault is the recirc pump. Apparently you can unstick them with a judicious use of a hose pipe on pump disconnected ends.
Fuel pump - also heard that they can be given a bit of a thwack which can dislodge any gummy diesel.
I'll be doing a write up once a bit further forward - loads going on. 2007 Vogue TDV8 with 255/55/20's fitted

Interesting thoughts Mark/John - will have a look at that loom from Disco3 if I get a chance.

Is the recirc pump the one on the side of the FBH?
