I have a 53 plate vogue and have the nav screen and radio etc but to me it looks old and tired and I would love to update it.

I've read the posts about the android units being installed but I'm happy with the sound and don't want to loose the sub.

So what I'm trying to find out is can I change the head unit to the later 06-09 head unit with very little hassle or am I stuck with what it came with?

They are totally different systems

The '03 is all BMW electronics - then after 06 they went to Ford systems - almost nothing is compatible.

You may have more luck with later BMW hardware - but don't expect easy upgrades.....

You don't have to lose the sub with the Android unit, it has separate outs for a sub which you can use...  Pete

If you want to be super fussy about the sound.. (and I thought I was until I discovered that the sub wasn't even connected ) you an add passive 3 and 2 way crossover networks and run a phono extension lead from the head unit to the boot, where you can add an amp and then wire it to the LR sub... easy as it's all exposed during the installation

I have an amp, I have run the lead from the head unit, but thats as far as it got as I feel it's not required for my ears I haven't even bothered with crossovers... I ran on the logic that it could be easily added in the boot if required, just remember to run the phono when you feed the loom  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
