I've been after a Range Rover for a good while now but could never find the one I wanted, with most I looked at being out of my price range or poor and abused examples.

After many months of looking for a 4.2 supercharged I decided that I'd extend my search to include the 5.0 version which, in reality, I should have done ages ago. I still found a few horror stories, though eventually ended up with a 2010 Autobiography with 60,000 miles on it.

It's primary purpose is a "go to" everyday car, and is replacing an SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee, so yes, I understand about fuel consumption. I only picked it up on Monday but so far so good, the car's a pleasure to drive and is a lot better on my back than my previous dailies have been, especially the Jeep, which was harsh to the point of painful.

Only got a couple of pictures so far, as the weather's been garbage round here, but will hopefully upload a few decent ones when I've had a chance to give it a proper clean inside and out, though the first job with it will be to take it for a full check up with my local independent and, if all is good, change the transfer box and transmission fluids.

I gave up searching for a Supercharged as someone told me that most of the good ones are snapped up and sent to Japan.

After spending much time looking for one I had to admit defeat and eventually bought a diesel, however you can't beat the petrol for smoothness and quietness although I'm loving the torque compared to my much earlier petrol.

Nothing really to report so far as it doesn't go in for it's inspection till next Wednesday with our local specialist, and hardly done anything with it really as it's been a bit chaotic with the holidays and one thing and another. My only little moan is that I was promised the car with a set of matching tyres, all Avon, yet it arrived with three Avon and a Nexen on the N/S/F due to an unforeseen event apparently. Ah well. not happy but nothing much I can do about it at the moment, certainly till next week anyway.

The driver's door froze solid on the first bad frost we had round here, so I just put a light coat of silicon grease on the seals which will get cleaned off and replaced with Gummi Pfledge, though again when I get time. I'll also spray the locks with some chain lube I have knocking about to hopefully prevent them from seizing as well.

The one thing I've found with it so far is that it's a lot smoother on the road than my Jeep SRT8 was, and my back can only be thanking me for this.

Just another little update on my new (to me) Range Rover.

It's been in for it's full check up today with A1 British 4x4 in Bury, which was handy as it's only 10 minutes from our house. I'd never heard of these guys before as I'd never owned a Landrover product, though my first impressions have been very positive with them.

They changed the transfer box fluid as per my request, checked everything else over and adjusted the parking brake as whoever fitted the new discs on the rear had left the brake binding slightly on one side. Apparently a diagnostic machine is required for this but it's now sorted.

Several (30+) previous fault codes were checked and cleared, again suggesting that the previous garage who looked after this car didn't have the correct software/rig for it. It's now been passed by them as a "good motor", which is good enough for me and gives me the confidence to start doing things to it like a deep clean both inside and out and to fit one of my plates to it, which is on retention at the moment.

The owner seemed particularly pleased with the condition of the car and how it's been looked after, and we're going to put a service plan together to hopefully keep it this way.

Total cost was £243 which equated to 2 1/2 hours @ £65/hour, transfer case oil and VAT. Bear in mind I'm used to Mercedes, so this was a bargain to me.

Having only a Jeep to compare it against, I get the feeling that owning a ffr is only going to be a positive experience for you Enjoy it before you catch "Roverphobia"... But I get the feeling that the Jeep might have immunised you to this ailment  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Went for my first "proper" run in the car yesterday, and took it to a car meet at MSL Performance in Birmingham, which is roughly a 220 mile round trip.

I've done this trip countless times, as these are the people who do all the tuning on my other car, though I've never done it in as much comfort. I wasn't in a particular rush to get either there or back, so just settled down with the cruise on most of the way and had a play with a few gadgets and settings while I was plodding down the M6. I seem to have now found my ultimate comfort seat settings, though will probably still do a bit of fine tuning, though I must admit to being impressed with the way it just handles rougher surfaces, literally gliding over most of them, with no jarring or bouncing which the SRT8 used to do. Obviously the air suspension helps, but the lack of run-flat tyres also goes a long way to eliminating the harsh ride, at least in my mind.

As for fuel then yes, it used a bit, averaging around 20 - 22mpg, though I consider this reasonable, especially with some of the other stuff I use. Incidentally, is there a way to see overall mileage figures with these, or am I stuck with it re-setting itself every time I stop it?

The main problem which I have now come up against is that this car was going to be a stop - gap for mid - late summer when I was going to consolidate my two cars into one. I've always had a stupid over powered saloon car, and a decent Winter car to use as a daily. I had every intention of selling my E Class (this would have to be to someone who knows the car as it's very modified) and p/x'ing whatever Winter hack I had, which is currently this Range Rover, against a Mercedes GLE63. Looking into this a bit deeper, I'm very much doubting that the GLE will be as comfortable as the Range Rover, so I may now have to put Plan B into operation, though I don't have a Plan B as yet.

My main regret is that I didn't buy one of these cars earlier. Love it to bits, the comfort, the effortless way it does things and the quiet cabin. I even got offered a remap and pulley swap yesterday at "mate's rates" though declined as I want to try to keep it standard. [/i] Dave
