Just thought I'd share this. I'm doing some work on a Freelander 1, and was struggling to get the front driveshaft nuts off (tightening torque is 400Nm)
I broke a decent quality ratchet, broke my old "undo anything" torque wrench, bent one 1/2 inch drive breaker bar and came close to snapping another one
Then I saw an old post on another site, just a one liner ignored by the other posters, mentioning a torque multiplier - but it also said how expensive they were. So I did a search and my, have times moved on - I went ahead and bought one on eBay (alright, its not going to last forever - but then I don't intend doing this job many more times !) - for £26 delivered, including the right 32mm impact socket Thats WAY cheaper than buying a 1 inch breaker bar and appropriate socket, which was going to be my next move.

It arrived today and I went straight out to the garage to give it a go, not overly confident of success if I'm honest - and it promptly undid both driveshaft nuts like they were finger tight !! What a great bit of kit

Not sure what I'll use it for yet but nice to have in reserve.

HGV mechanics and breakdown guys tend to use them for helping to replace wheel on the side of the road and generally in the garage.
Used to be mega expensive, but as you say times have moved on and the chinese imports have taken over  Regards

When undoing the crank bolt, what did you use to brace the reaction arm* thingy on the multiplier?

*I've no idea what the correct term is for this.

Am fortunate to have a 3/4 inch drive set ,which is great for very tight stuff if you have room to get the sockets on !

I purchased one of these a while ago for around £30 never used it but looks good bit of kit originally got it for wheel nuts on my ldv 400 recovery truck just never needed to change tyres away from home where I have my air driver

Looking like a must have for lower bolts on the front struts  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Looks ideal for removing nuts. Can it be used to tighten nuts to a particular torque setting? John

To answer unsolicited's question, I was undoing the hub nuts on the front driveshafts and braced it against a wheel stud. I tightened a couple of flat bottomed nuts onto the wheel stud first though. These protected the thread, and gave a much firmer base so the stud didn't bend. With a bit more time (patience ??) I would have fabricated something that fitted over 2 or more studs and bolted down.

I did read you could do nuts up by setting your torque wrench using the multiplication ratio quoted for the tool but I don't think I'd trust it My plan is to crank the nuts up using the breaker bar then take it to a garage with a big torque wrench.
