Old fuel could be coating /pooling in the exhaust - should burn off - as long as there is nothing else addint to it.

I've just taken a test drive. The smoke is very white and I clouds of it is left behind on the test drive.

There is always something else with this car... Now let's start examining the turbo.

I've also just checked the to pipes which bolt onto the inlet manifold. The LH one (Drivers) seems to be pressuried whereas the right one (Passenger) can be compressed by hand. Is this normal?

Very Strange.

Just went out and started her again. No smoke for the first 2 miles, then suddenly the smoke returned?

If there has been that much fuel passing through the engine and exhaust, there will be smoke for quite a while I would expect

Also, worth checking the oil level, to ensure any diesel has not passed the rings and contaminated the engine oil

If you are happy the levels are all correct, and no issues with the turbo, I'd be inclined to take it out, get it warm and give it a bootful of throttle in a high gear (keeping the revs down) to get everything nice and hot, and burn off any excess oil/fuel in the exhaust/cats

As the smoke clears, increase the engine revs

I'm not sure exactly on the oil level, perhaps tomorrow I will change it all just to be certain. Took her for a test drive this evening about 12 miles. Still smoking all though not as bad as previously. I'm starting to think there is two separate problems.

Anyways; there is a wooshing sound between 2,000 and 3,000 RPM. Perhaps this could be the turbo? As mentioned LH Intercooler pipe hard to compress whereas the RH one is easy to compress. Seems to have good power.

This does not happen in neutral. All though the smoke can still happen in neutral.

Ah. So much investigations...

Italian tune up for 20+ miles then re-evaluate....

You won't get a diesel anywhere near running temp by leaving it ticking over...

Also in this weather can take an awful long time to get the exhaust anywhere near hot.... Pete

Typical place for one to go is under the webbing... Ed

I'm going to try and do a bit more driving tonight. I would be very surprised if they failed. I replaced the RH (Passenger) one less than 5,000 miles ago.

Can someone let me know something. If your engine is running and you squeeze the intercooler to manifold pipes are they hard or easy to compress.

If at tickover then there is no pressure so it should feel the same as it does with the engine off, if one is harder than with the engine off that would indicate a blockage somewhere I would think....  Pete

Happy New Year...

Thought I'd give you all an update on what's happening with the RR.

Since my last post I've covered approx 100 miles. The smoke cleared up abit better with each drive until now, where there is very little if no smoke noticeable from behind. A good rev will produce abit of blueish black smoke but only noticeable stationary and by someone behind the vehicle.

It's safe to say it was un burnt diesel in the exhaust. Now... The latest issue which I must solve.

The wooosh sound when accelerating in Drive between 2 -3000 RPM. I think it is an inter-cooler hose as mention earlier in this thread. Perhaps the one to the RH turbo. No error codes. Will keep you all updated!

Is the woosh related to engine speed?

Do you know if your alternator is good? Mine made a noise about that rev range and was the alternator. Pig of a job in situ but perfectly doable.

Confirmed by a friend at a local garage using a listening tube (metal rod and funnel) on the alternator to localise the sound. Ed

I don't think it is the alternator, I'm almost certain it is a intercooler hose related and the reason being is tonight whilst driving it flash engine system fault, promptly I plugged in my handheld and it send boost pressure manifold Bank a correlation error. Which side is that? Switched on and off and all was well.
