Not what I wanted to hear, but nevertheless How could it lose compression on 7 cylinders at once? I find it so strange that it did so at idle and not when driving.

Likewise, it's strange that she didn't lock up or make any sounds of metal on metal contact.

Would anyone put any hope on the DS2 row not working.

Also would lack of compression not throw up an error?

Sorry but I concur, seems to turn over much too fast, just doesn't sound right, especially at 11.7 volts...

I do hope we are all wrong though, and it's just a very healthy starter motor... Pete

Hey Guys.

The gentleman from GAP believes that it is a immobilization issue. The last time I lost compression it logged various errors in the computer. This time it stalled out, but didn't log any compression related errors. He has suggested I look at the wiring.

Hopefully he is correct.

I doubt it's an immobiliser issue. It wouldn't crank or inject fuel if it was immobilised...
In addition, the immobiliser doesn't stop the engine from running, it only stops it from starting

Likewise, if the cam and crank are not sync'd, it wouldn't inject fuel either. My memory isn't what it's used to be, I can't remember if the TDV8 has 1 or 2 cam sensors, but if it only has only one cam sensor, it would indicate that bank is sync'd with the crank
Watching the video, it does appear that it tries to fire half the time, again suggesting an issue with a bank

However, if it doesn't run on brake cleaner/easy start, that does suggest major mechanical issues...
I'd be inclined to take the upper turbo hoses off, and spray it directly into the manifold and see if it runs then

Hey Mikey.

I'll do that test tomorrow morning and report back. Would a faulty injector prevent her starting? I'm going to open the oil cap tomorrow and turn her over to see if the CAM is spinning. Ah well. We will know shortly.

I'm alive Mikey! And she lives. Easy start into the inlet got her going. Only got round to it tonight.

Now the problem.

She is idling quite well, ever so lump though, as in slight. Engine system fault came up once or twice.

Right exhaust white smoke and what looks like diesel. Didn't drive her, just idles for about 10 minutes.

Thought you may have been hanging from the rafters Embarassed

Lumpy idle is usually caused by a faulty injector or restricted air flow (or a wonky sensor, but would likely log a code)

Check the injector compensation values at idle. They should all read 1000 in a perfect situation. Anything over 1100 is likely to cause a slight miss, over 1200 needs investigated

If these are OK, next step is to drop the lower boost hoses off, and check for oil.

If there is no excessive oil, take the downpipes off and check the turbos are free to spin, and/or passing oil

I'm still hear Mikey! So glad she started, this saga has been one nightmare after another!!!

Anyways; I'll follow your instructions and see if we can pinpoint the exact problem. If it's the turbos I will replace both to be on the safe side. At this stage I'm looking at getting rid once she is repaired and replacing it with maybe a Skoda Superb 2.0 estate DSG 4x4. More than likely this RR will now be reliable, as it wasn't bad before the EGR failed, but maybe I'd rather a fresher car and this is now a 06 car. Will see. What do ye think?

Regarding Turbos if that is the case; any one have any for sale at reasonable money?

Hey hamlet, yep she is now starting from the key no bother! Which is great...

Now off to town in my Landcruiser to do some Christmas Shopping!

Hey Everyone! Glad to hear the engine doesn't have to come out for the turbo replacement if indeed that's what she needs.

So I went back to her today. Flat as a pancake, not one drop of power. Sorry Hamlet, I thought she would start today as it was starting perfect last night! Tried to jump start her, but she was very slow to build up a charge. When eventually I got her turning she wouldn't start. I didn't use any easy start today because a) it was getting dark and b) was starting to rain!

After Christmas day I'm going to go at it again. In the meantime I will charge the battery...

I did however manage to get the error codes read from the car...

P0087 Fuel Rail/ System Pressure
P2290 Injector Control Pressure too low
P0191 Fuel Rail pressure sensor range/ performance
P0480 Fan 1 Control Circuit.

What is this pointing too? I definitely think there is at least an injector amiss? Could this be causing all of the trouble?

Ps Happy Christmas Everyone!!

First three point towards a knackered fuel pump in the tank in my opinion. Thinking about it I had similar symptoms when my pump went and the main pump can't pull the fuel all the way from the tank. Ed
