Actually, it is the hybrid that I'm trying to get her into. To be honest, the Tesla would be perfect. She does lots of miles but they are lots of short to medium journeys that end back at home. However, I think the "falcon doors" and tech factor will put her off. The XC90 PHEV is a great option. And no more diesel.

The Audi has a hybrid too but you lose the 7 seat option as that's where they put the batteries.

The Volvo is probably the sensible option and indeed Jeremy Clarkson's review of the LC200 suggested people buy the Volvo instead. The new one looks better than the old model.

But the Mercedes GLS is bigger and may offer more luxury. Mercedes might be perceived as having more badge status too. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Tried the Q7 today.

Not impressed.

Some nice aspects - the car drove well; handled nicely; was quiet; well appointed; great tech.

The downside - awful, harsh, jiggly ride (whoever signed that off needs firing); inverse Tardis syndrome (huge on the outside, cramped on the inside); some dreadful cost cutting (cheap sun visors that would be embarrassing on a A1). An estate car on steroids.

Also, the sales process was so turgid. Nice young chap who had to tick all the boxes on his iPad app. Interminably tedious. Give us the keys and let's get going.

Oh and my wife came out of the showroom saying that maybe we should just sell her car. She would then drive my Range Rover unless I'm shooting and I drive one of the other cars "as we don't need two 4x4's". Which puts me in the Mini Cooper in the winter most days. Which would be fine except the Rangie would be full of rubbish, permanently filthy and do starship mleage. How do I politely dissuade her?

Keep the Toyota or buy the newest one you can get to replace it.

Not sure of there trading as a good garage, however they say they can get new un-registered cars!

If you only need 7 seats occasionally and they are for small people (wife will probably fit ) you can buy a 7 seat conversion's for range rover and other vehicles, you can then pick what ever car you want and make it into the 7 seater she desires

I have just fitted rear fold up bench seat into my nissan murano the load cover still shuts most of the boot off luckily it's in 2 sections, 1 from 3/4 to rear door (this bit is fine) and then 3/4 to rear of seats I can't use the second part, still get my privacy and 2 small seats great for the kids

We drove the hybrid Volvo XC-90 today.

Very impressive bit of kit. Drove and rode well even on the stupid skinny tyres the R Design model we tried had. The tech was off the scale. A nice interior too (though spartan in the back - almost as though they couldn't be bothered).

The Empress decided however that:
A. She didn't like the look and
B. We have too many cars.

She wants to sell her LC and then borrow the Range Rover whenever she is doing a trip up the A14. I will get the Mini (my son's car that he never uses because he now lives in London) most days. I get it when I'm shooting or need to do a long trip.

She's clearly a woman of taste

What's wrong with getting her an older L322 SC, doing the important jobs on it like the chain tensioner and then she could use that all the time and then it would scare her off rangies spending 15mins each day in the petrol station.....
You can however get the GMC Yukon and the Denali in RHD form and I believe darn sarf there is a dealer, or buy the ones from the US embassay when they flog one off I think you may actually need to visit a Chevrolet dealer though if the London one has gone. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

She clearly wants to have a L405 as a daily drive so buy her an early 2013 model (so you get to keep the "newer" one you have as yours).

Let her chose the colour and trim if that keeps her happy
