If a vacuume is used to drain the oil from a tdv8, is it necessary to drain the sump from the rear sump plug? ______________________________

You will always get more oil out by draining than sucking...

but IMHO the amount left will be negligible , if you do oil changes on time then I can't see it making any difference... Pete

The Workshop Manual describes the vacuum method for the 4.4, but shows removal of both sump plugs for 3.6 models. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

The first time I changed the oil on my 3.6 I used the vacuum then took the plugs out.
There was very little oil came out of the plug holes so after that I only ever used the vacuum as I change the oil every 7ishK miles I reckon that any dirty oil left in would be so diluted it wouldn't matter.
80K miles later when I parted with it there were still no mechanical issues so it seemed to work OK for me
