Gearbox gone pop.....

Bought the car with 80kmiles on the clock and it had a tendency to go into gearbox protection mode after going 20 miles or so... Replaced hoses, rad, oil heat exchanger, hoses, dropped the sump, changed the oil and filter - problem sorted.

Until the day before yesterday.....

Went to pull away from a roundabout and it rev'd, then clunked, and pulled away as normal. Our roads are a disgrace so I assumed I'd been half sitting on ice but then it did it again a few minutes later Shocked Got to destination, the car cooled, got home, no issues.

So, it seems to only occur when the car is up to running temp. Took it to a mate who runs a local independent garage that specialises in Land Rover and he plugged into it to get "Gearbox Monitor Fault" or something along those lines.. After a couple of conversations, the symptoms are that the box is goosed.

So, I'm currently waiting for a refurbished gearbox Big Cry which will lighten my pocket significantly, at exactly the wrong time of the year.

I guess the fluid flush and filter change basically only delayed the inevitable....

I feel your pain! Sad

Just had my box reconditioned - 80,000 miles is about the norm I'm told. You could look up RRPhil on "the other" forum - He was doing rebuilds a while back for people in the north east if I recall correctly. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

I think the oil change just delayed the demise... it was "its time".

I flushed it at least three times but from what the garage say, its just wear on friction parts that has caused the issue. If I could do without it for a while, I may be tempted to give RRPhil a try but I need the car.

Its the first time in years I haven't had a spare vehicle that I can use - I've got a 90 and a 110 waiting to re-chassis and its a tad slippy for the Hayabusa to come out Whistle
