2003 TD6 Front to Rear Brake Pipes - you best check yours !

Hidden under plastic covers fitted between N/S sill edges and floor pan are the front to rear brake pipes

I had noticed the left to right pipe was a going to need replacing soon anyway but the pipes hidden by the covers I had no idea they were so bad - CHECK YOURS if you have an early L322 !

Yesterday one of mine burst (luckily at slow speed and was able to stop perfectly safely)

Today I stripped the covers off to reveal some very ripe pipework

I am replaceing the complete runs to each rear wheel along with the flexy hoses

Behind the N/S/F mudlfap and arch liner are 2 joints that makes the job a lot easier

Whilst I'm in the same area I will be fitting 2 x arb links and the top and bottom rear hub bushes

No mention of them at any of its previous MOT's...

Common fault with them, best change them all at the same time and that saves doing some now and some next year

and remove (both) front wheelarch liners to discover very rusty pipes, but especially the LHF where the rear pipes run up to the ABS.


Only benefit of all the plastic covers on a car these days is that the MOT tester is not allowed to remove them, which might get you through an MOT but may mean they can't see dangerous corrosion like the above photos. When I removed my rear pipes they disintegrated in my hands Shocked .

already done the front brake pipes and flexys when I replaced the ball joints and steering arms etc

I intend to keep this TD6 so everything I am doing is for my benefit Very Happy 2009 - L322 5.0 S/C Autobiography
