Axle oil

Looking in handbook, on pages 220 and 221, plenty of information about the specs of oils and fluids. But nothing on axle oil.
Does anyone here know what spec to use, and how much?
Or are axles "sealed for life" ?
Ahem....

Thanks in advance for replies....

No. I mean axle oil.
Or could it be that range rovers don't use axle oils ?

For differentials there are specs for front / back, locking / non locking and electric.

Land Rover service sheet

I am looking at item numbered 28. Renew front and rear axle fluid every 10 years. There are other entries 25 and 27 for differential fluids....

Me neither.
However it is clearly an item on the service sheet to be done every 10 years. And if LR think it should be every 10'years I am thinking every 5 might be recommended.
Not that I have ever heard of axle failure mind....

There is no axle fluid because there is no axle, you have differentials and propshaft/driveshafts attached to the differential (the CV joints of which will be lubricated by grease and I've never known that as a service item, just replaced when the CV is changed).
Whoever wrote 'axle oil' in the service documentation is either wrong or trying to blanket cover for all models such as the Defender which has solid case axles instead of driveshafts.
Even with solid axle vehicles the differential fluid is the same as the axle fluid as there is no separation, just a bearing.

Thank you Weejock.

That explains why there is no mention of axle fluid in the handbook !

For what it's worth....the service sheet I am looking at is from Land Rover and is meant for
Range Rover TDV8 derivatives from 11MY onwards.
LR label the sheet
"JLR 15 39 10_2E".

I am looking at it in front of me now...my last service from a main dealer.
It's the same sheet that says I should replace my gearbox oil every 9 years and 144k miles, and diff fluid every 5 years or 80k miles.
I am sure other FFRR owners will have the same service sheet....

But thanks for clarifying. What is bizarre is why LR have it on the Range Rover service sheet !

probably a left over from the P38 and classic which did have live axles. Can confirm that the only fluids needing changed are

PAS fluid
front and rear diffs
gearbox oil
engine oil
transfer box oil
brake fluid
coolant

Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
