I got to admit that I check to fuel consumption on my SC from time to time as I've had a sticking brake caliper or two over the years any sudden increase in fuel usage is a bit of a giveaway, so is burning your fingers when touching the disc. I have to say the acceleration is awesome and so I would miss it and also I would miss the celebratory beer when the fuel consumption rises above 20mpg.

Geoff, you have a point. My 4.4 gives me just under 500 miles between fill ups. How many miles does a 5.0SC deliver between fill ups? MY23 D350 HSE

Why don't you guys buy second hand - with my car for an example the former owner took a hit of 51.000 pounds after 2 years and 3 months.

My recommendation is the SC. Why? You ALREADY have a diesel L405. The difference between your current car and the SC will be a lot more than the diesel V8. Both diesels are great, but you don't want to get in the new car and say, "Why did I change?" |

Although it's slightly old, I've been reading this thread with great interest..... I currently have a 2018MY FFRR on order which I need to finalise the spec on within the next few weeks and engine choice is proving to be one of my biggest dilemmas.

Whilst the TDV6 is smoother and quieter (SDV8 is definitely a diesel at idle), the SDV8 just feels more relaxed in its delivery, and it’s quicker. Also, the hydraulic anti-roll is supposedly only there to mitigate the massive weight of the diesel V8 (but note the lighter Supercharged has it), but the TDV6 also rolls a lot by normal car standards.

The SDV8 is a belting engine but if ultimately peace and relaxation is your thing then you've picked the right two contenders.

From experience the 4.4 is more likely to deliver nearer 30MPG or a bit less for the driving condition scenario presented, so the fuel cost differential is even less.

If you want refinement, get the petrol - as you say, the fuel cost difference isn't huge (and is a small part of overall ownership costs). Just means you'll spend more time standing at the pumps. |

I've only had petrol Range Rovers - this is because I do a lot of short journeys - which the diesel engine wouldn't appreciate.
