I must say the 16mdl SDV8 i tested had no lag from start and was silk smooth . Not been able to test the SC though.
Nick did you get more than 5mpg at that speed? Laughing

Spot mpg probably not. Trip as above.

Yes SDV8 is very smooth, but not as smooth as SC. (I'm told that I should have been a surgeon as I can detect vibrations in the steering wheel that the local guys at the MD cannot, but the regional tech could).

So the SDV8 is a little less silky but in return you should get near double mpg on a trip like Nick has shown?

Economy isn't a factor in the OP's decision. He does too few miles for it to matter. MY23 D350 HSE

i do even less but i still think about it! So imo it is a factor.
Ok so reread it and op is worried about residuals ,in that case i would say they are very good right now probably as there are so few.

Not certain the SDV8 would have managed the same 95mpg average speed. Feedback is that generally speaking the SDV8 is usually returns 10mpg more over any trip than the SC. So on my posted trip it would have returned about 25mpg.

I did double check that the units of measure for fuel consumption were mpg not gpm!

Dinner in Stuttgart sounds good! Maybe I'll get higher than 95 mph average next time.

It's residuals I'm more concerned about. It's more expensive to start with, which means it will lose more in real terms. I can live with that, but I don't want a massive loss in percentage terms over a 4.4.

I'm figuring that the road tax changes mean after 5 years, the 4.4 and the SC will have the same tax, which might bolster residuals overall.

Referring to average speeds v mpg my TDV6 averaged 93mph for 176 miles at 26.2mpg. Not too shabby four up with full luggage.
Just been to my local MD who has found a reasonable spec new 5.0SC in stock. I'm Expecting at least £10k off and if so I might be tempted. I bought my Vogue on exact sameday last year when they were offering some great deals, seems like a good time of the year.

PP A quick look at LR used approved suggests that a 2015 AB with similar mileage is being offered for about the same price whether it's a 4.4 or SC. So the SC loses the extra initial cost over the 4.4 in the first year or so. That's an extra £10k I think?

At my mileage (20k pa) the 4.4 AB loses around £20k in the first year alone, so a new SC would be heading towards £30k depreciation for the equivalent model. A bit less depreciation in each case for less mileage.

I'm thinking of picking up a 1-year old low mileage RR next time to avoid the £20k+ first year depreciation. That option would solve your SC depreciation concern too Smile

E.g. This one is very similar to mine but with less than half the mileage. Mine cost £100k in Sept 16:

SC is £3500 more when new.
