L322 SC Rear Brake Pad Query

Morning All!

Your views on the following would be much appreciated.

I have a 2007 SC. I noticed at the weekend that there was a grinding noise coming from the rear brakes. I had a look and it looks like the OSR brake is metal on metal as the surface of the disc is scored. The NSR looks fine. It was difficult to see how much pad material was left.

I was surprised because I assumed that there is a rear brake wear sensor? Google tells me that there should be, so that leads me to two conclusions;

1.) The wear sensor wasn't installed when the last set of pads were replaced? (If not installed wouldn't this give an error message??)

2.) The brake caliper is seized, causing the pad that doesn't contain the sensor to wear down more quickly than the other???

Also were is the best place to get OEM discs, pads & sensors?

Hi Bazzer,

On my previous 2006 4.2 S/C I had an issue with one of the rear calipers seizing leading to excessive brake pad wear (I believe this is not uncommon). Their should be a sensor installed and I am surprised you didn't get a 'bong of death' message!

Suggest you use the excellent Dan of Duckworths for a quote for some new bits and always get genuine parts for things like brakes.

Cheers,

Thanks for the heads up re the seized caliper.

Booked in with my local indy specialist who uses genuine LR parts so fingers crossed it's just pads, discs and sensors and not a new caliper in addition!
