Right, we've all heard the moral dilema argument against these things (ie who do they choose to hit, the row of people or the bridge support), and to be honest as a simple tool to get from A to B with minimum fuss and stress and all that stuff, they might be of some use (provided we can still use real cars when we want to, but that's another story). No, what really worries me about these things is this - what happens when they encounter black ice, or a deep puddle, or a diesel spillage on a roundabout at night? How are they going to react? Can they deal with an impending spin? What about snow? I haven't seen any discussion on these issues whatsoever. Ok, we humans don't always react as well as we might, but at least we're (hopefully) looking where we're going, so might see a puddle, or be able to react to black ice, what the hell is a computer going to do when the car suddenly doesn't react the way it should? Oh yes, and what about punctures? Catastrophic failures occur on runflats just as they do on conventional tyres, so again, sudden change in the way the car reacts.

I can't believe the brain boxes that have come up with these things haven't thought about these issues (although we all know Tesla's are bit flaky with white trucks on an overcast day!), so what's the crack? Drives:

IIHO I don't think that is an issue... DSC TC EBA are fitted to "normal" cars because unless you have the experience and reactions of an F1 driver you're not going to react quickly enough when faced with hazards... A computer will deal with any issue from oil, black ice etc much better than any human...

Personally I think they should be banned... my thought is, who do you sue when it does go wrong and kills someone because a sensor failed, the person who sent it to wherever it was going, the maker, or the maker of the sensor...???

We will just request a vehicle that suits our purpose and it will arrive, do it's task, then depart again to be used by another.

It'd be cheaper and more humorous if all warning labels were removed.

I'm not saying that innocents aren't killed on the roads now but if we were able to thin the herd of those the gene pool could do without anyway, we would capture a goodly proportion of those who cause fatal collisions....... a happy by-product if you will and the main rationale for these odious, individual choice-crushing monstrous devices would be diluted.
