Hi all,

Driving home tonight and up on the dash I noticed the yellow engine symbol anyway arrived at home plugged in my reader and the error code is: P0489-00.

On checking other here and other sites for info I presume its the EGR valves as the IIDTOOL said the same so......

Is it new EGR valves time or something else?

I have cleared the codes so the lights off the dash for now so is it ok to drive until its fixed? Range Rover quotes.....

Forget that, they have dropped in price 2 years ago £1200 was the price being quoted they would appear to be a tenth of that on the bay of fleas  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Prices have dropped vastly but as I said I've cleared the codes not used the car as yet today but what I did notice is I don't hear the usual squeak, squeak, squeak sound of the cleaning of the EGR valves.

If the light comes back on I'll get the misses to call the RAC see what goes.

Wife just drove to her mothers and as soon as she left the garage the light popped up on the dash.

She called the RAC and they said its deffo the EGR valves and its over £1000 to fix plus they said NOT to drive the car as it will melt the manifold and head Ummm?

So waiting back from here to see what the RAC man says about out garage cover we have with them. Range Rover quotes.....

Just did a search on bay of thieves and 2x genuine EGR valves are £359.00.

They quoted that LR charge £556.00 for a pair.

So RAC said they will cover up to £750 for parts so if the garage plays ball we are covered on that but will have to pay for labour. Range Rover quotes.....

I understand that EGR failure and turbos going band are linked... I can't work out how they are linked... but there are a lot a posts with the words turbo and egr in the same tale of woe.... I'd be careful.... Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Not too bad, around 4 hours work, from memory...

Valves are a little pricey if bought from a main dealer, but they are currently being offered as part of their trade program, so £60-ish cheaper each from retail price

If the turbos go on this its mountain here we come and a can of petrol. Range Rover quotes.....

If I get the EGR valves done what would I check for turbo failure or how would I know if the turbos are as well. Range Rover quotes.....

I don't follow the EGR/turbo links. Apparently, they cause the turbo to "overspeed" but a faulty EGR wouldn't allow it to overspeed. A split turbo hose on the other hand, would cause that, and they are a whole lot more common failure

Just had one in last week for a pair of turbos. 82k miles, never had an EGR issue or EML displayed. Seized the LH turbo, and passing oil through the RH seals

Personally I think it's because people drive it with defective EGR's and this overheats the engine in specific areas, then causes damage to the turbos... pure speculation but some people will drive their FF's with all sorts of faults...

Think I'd get them chipped out if I had to fall that far and buy an FF that used the fuel of the devil.....  Pete

I suspect it is to do with the oil feed pipe becoming restricted, causing poor oil flow and subsequent wear/failure

Well that answers that conundrum... EGR sticks open, overheats the inlet and the turbo hose blows... leading to over speed of the turbo and BANG!

I knew that there was a link in there somewhere.... but the underlying cause seams to be.....

Common faults on the TDV8... Turbos, Turbo pipes and EGR's and they all have one thing in common, they are directly effected by the throttle peddle  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
