I'm trying to help a friend look into the origins of a petrol powered miniature Range Rover that he's had for a number of years.
He was told that it had been sold in Harrods in the 1970's. There are no maker's plates on the metal chassis or the one piece fibre glass body. There's a lift up rear engine compartment lid revealing a 5hp Briggs & Stratton 4 stroke engine.
It has a 6 speed gearbox and looks as though the running gear is lawn mower derived.
The Windscreen is perspex and mounted to the body with a traditional windscreen rubber. It has working lights and even a radio.
Does anyone know anything about this type of children's "toy" ??

To start with this car was Hand Built in England in the 1970s and then sold in HARRODS & HAMLEYS for tens of thousands

With this being the two-seater version it was One of the tops of the range models, they hardly ever come up for sale so this is a rare opportunity to own this stunning little car

the engine needs a service, new battery, lights not currently working and throttle needs setting up, all are which minor problems , expected for its age around 40 years old, But it still runs

Could be a great Great show piece in any garage or for the grand children

I remember seeing the RRC convertible in Harrod’s back in the late 1980’s. The car in question was white and the display featured a huge plush bear seated in the driver’s seat. I remember that the car had a radio with a c-cassette deck. There was even a scaled-down caravan behind the car, but I do not remeber if it was actually attached to the car. The price for the car was almost 7K if I do not remember incorrectly. The caravan was slightly cheaper at 4K.

In addition, a scaled-down convertible Batmobile from the late 1980’s era was also for sale in the same toy department. I believe that this was in December 1989.
